I’d rather have Collins. RBs still a dime a dozen. Harris is just being force fed because Ben is done. Harris is still just 3.9 YPC…. I’ll take our duo of RBs and Collins they are working as needed damn near perfectly.
Meh. Conner is 3.2 YPC. RB hasn't been the disaster I thought it might be, but it's also not good. I don't have strong angry opinions here or anything, it's hard to be negative when you're 6-0.

Still, come 2022, I imagine RB will be a position we look to upgrade.

For past years, he deserves scorn. For this year, he deserves major kudos. Took some big risks, swung for the fences, and all those big bets are paying off. We're a legit SB contender, at this point.
What is happening this year is a culmination of decisions he has made over the past 3-4 years now. Obviously 2018 was horrible, but they quickly changed course and immediately started building towards what we are seeing right now.

The Cards RBs combined are 132 Att 588 yards 4.4 Avg and 5TDs with 32 catches and 197 yards....

Najee Harris is 102 att for 388 yards and 3.8 avg and 2 TDs plus 32catches 197 yards and 1 TD

I often wonder how much of the Wilkes hire came from Mike and not Steve. The DUI is also a question mark, seems like he couldve gotten fired after that, just given how public NFL life is.... I almost think Mike forced the hire and after seeing 3-13 stepped back and said, oh damn I should let Steve work.... otherwise why dont you fire him after 3-13 and a dui?

He's 3.2 YPA because they give him all the clock eating downs and the short yardage situations when the D know it's coming. Yet he still gets them most the time.

He get's all the grunt work and Chase get's all the light box work.

Well said brother, well said. I feel the same way. Zaven is gonna be a star, anyone that knows football should be able to see this, just look at the way he attacks the ball going downhill. Wait till he totally knows this defense. RB's are a dime a dozen & can be drafted in later rounds any draft.

Exactly you have to add the context that he’s facing a lot of stacked boxes due to the down and distance situations.

He has 4 TD runs this year that were all from the 1 yard line. Those 4 runs alone knock like .3 YPC off his average. Let alone the 3rd or 4th and 1 plays where he gets just enough for the first.

I'm mostly just being silly for the fun of it, but he's currently functioning as a short yardage/goal specialist with a low YPC and zero target share in the passing game. Zaven Collins hasn't done much of anything yet, while Najee Harris is 6th in the league in production from the running back position in terms of rushing and receiving.

It's not that the offense doesn't look good, but man, imagine it with a hyper-talented running back instead of an ILB ceding snaps to Jordan Hicks.
lol you gotta stop using fantasy football for your analysis

I was wrong and it effects ______ ?
Is much more effective, then I’m sorry.
‘sorrow and sadness has its place, yet amends, clear corrective actions change behavior.

still like to see cards be effective with running backs early instead of 3 and out passing, we were this time because the draw tricked the browns for 40 yards! Great job Chase and play caller - I don’t believe a draw was scripted on 3rd and long. it opened up our playbook, without putting K1 at unnecessary risk.

AJ Green has been a number 1 all his life, looks like he is surprised when he gets targeted here, but has quietly but effectively been 1b - I think he could take over a game if needed. Same with Conner. I think we are better then other teams and have not come close to peaking, mostly because of self inflicted problems.

we have beat playoff teams soundly.

If he was he'd know RB's like CMC are getting rarer and rarer.

The days of the bellcow do it all RB 1000 yard rushing / 1000 yard receiving are done. The only guys left in the league are Kamara and CMC and both, especially CMC, have major injury concerns. There are some fringe guys like Mixon and Jones but neither are super studs.

There are pure pound it out RB's like Chubb and Henry.

Everyone else is using committees. Even guys like Chris Carson who in the past would take 90% of snaps are seeing drop offs in touches.

"hyper-talented"

I think we are not watching the same Najee Harris. He seems to be good, but not "hyper-talented".

Conner isn't perfect, but he fills his role perfectly

falls forward, fights for the last yard, takes on tacklers in the hole.

four games: Titans, Jax, Rams and Browns -- in the 4Q, the Cards got the ball, handed him the ball again and again, and burned most of the remaining game clock to salt the victory away

how many games in Cardinal past have they hung on to victory by their fingernails with a last second defensive stop because they couldn't burn clock?

Yep. Also, that's their 3rd 90+ yard drive out of 6 games to basically end the game. Conner is a huge part of that--yesterday he had 6 carries on that game-killing drive.

The Cardinals are averaging 130 rushing yards per game and are currently 6th in the league.

The typical darksider response last year was that Murray inflated the numbers, but that isnt the case this year.

Imagine paying attention to the essence of the game, which is winning and less to fantasy numbers.

Exactly why I LOVED when we brought him in. Not only did I watch this kid with the Steelers, but even more so during his college days at Pitt. I had this one nailed for sure. I also remember the hell I got when I said that Warner should be starting over Leinart. And my profile of Murray was spot on too. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever been wrong. If you don't believe me, just ask my wife:).

Agree!! It was most definitely the case last year, but most definitely not the case this year.

If a draft gave us a player for only one year, I would see your argument. But we draft a first round pick to be on the team for at least 5 years, and LBs take longer to develop than RBs. With RBs, they’re the fastest position to develop in the NFL because other than blocking schemes, we give you the ball and you go run forward. It’s not a complex position.

On the flip side, every LB position has tremendous nuance. As the SILB, are you keying the guard or the TE on this play? If there’s motion from the WR to an H-B position, where does your key slide? If it’s power, do you shoot the gap or go lateral? Do you take on the blocker for the next guy or do you shed?

That’s surface level stuff from a fan like me, I guarantee that’s just skimming the surface, but it’s easy to see why a RB would do better in year one than a LB, regardless of talent, and I’d honestly just about never take a RB in round 1 anyway, their careers are too short.

I would look at our approach to the RB position this year and do what I can to best mimic it every year moving forward. Mid round draft pick and cheap vet FA and UDFA 3rd option. We are currently spending the 6th lowest amount for our RB room at 4.49 mil combined and that is good. Staying between 4.5 and 8.5 as a group is a good range to be in.

The guy I’ve been wrong about is Rondale Moore. I hated the pick and while he hasn’t made a major impact, team’s definitely have to be ready for him because he’s a big play waiting to happen. It’s only a matter of time until he breaks a punt return.

And, as much as it pains me to say it, I love the way KK is using him.

Yep...the days of an Emmitt Smith/Thurman Thomas/AP type bell cow that is good for 30 carries a game and never miss time is a thing of the past.

Better to spend the money on the line, RB's take too much of a pounding for the investment.

I'm not going to reply to every single Conner post, but if I was thinking about fantasy football, I'd be more excited about Conner.

For everyone claiming I want a top bell cow back, that's never been what I've been about. I want a better threat than what we have, is all. Plenty of teams employ committees, which is fine. Many of them have more reliable players. It's not like the results have been terrible, I just think they could be even better.

Wait weren’t you one of those defending Conner due to the decrepit Steelers oline and now you want to ignore that when examining najee?
