Rookie Boston Celtics wing Hugo Gonzalez is a big fan of soccer, which probably ought not to surprise given he is a native of Spain, where the sport reigns supreme. The former Real Madrid wunderkind even got to meet one of the sport's biggest stars, Kylian Mbappe, a player for the football club run by the parent organization behind his former EuroLeague team.

"He's a great person, obviously, apart from an amazing player," said Gonzalez in an interview earlier this year. "He played well ... so I met him in the morning, and then he just scored in the evening, so maybe I gave him a little bit of luck, even though he doesn't need it."

Even so, for the Madrid native, the sport of basketball remains No. 1 in his heart. "I like basketball more," said the Celtics wing, "I think it's more frenetic."

"Even though soccer is the biggest thing in Spain, obviously I like it, but ... I like basketball," he added. "I never played. My parents didn't allow me. They thought I was too tall for that. So, yeah, big shout out to them."

Gonzalez shares his love for soccer with his coach, Joe Mazzulla. "He was supporting -- he was diehard for Brazil, I think, and, it was the result that he wanted, that's for sure," recalled the Boston forward of a recent tilt they both took in. "He likes soccer a lot. We share that passion, I would say, so it's great."
