For the first time in awhile, the Charlotte Hornets are buzzing with excitement heading into the 2026-27 NBA season. After putting together a talented, young roster, the team is looking like a potential sleeper contender in the Eastern Conference.
This season, the Hornets are going to look a little different. LaMelo Ball's time with the franchise is over after he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Now, the team is building around young stars like Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel.
Miller is fresh off of a great season in 2025-26. He played in 65 games, averaging 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, while shooting 43.5 percent from the floor and 38.3 percent from three-point range.
Knueppel, on the other hand, played extremely well during his rookie year. He averaged 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game and also shot 47.5 percent from the field while knocking down 42.5 percent of his three-point attempts.
Ahead of the 2026-27 season, Miller has received a massive prediction that could change everything for Charlotte.
Sports Illustrated's Zach Roberts has predicted that Miller will have an All-NBA kind of season. He suggested that averages of 25 points and six rebounds would be reasonable to expect.
"The Hornets clearly have an immense amount of belief in Brandon Miller. And unless things change, he's not getting an extension this summer, making the upcoming season a contract year. Those two things could mean a huge leap is coming," Roberts wrote.
"And if Miller does make that leap, it will be hard to keep him off an All-NBA team. He averaged over 20 as the second option with a shoulder wrap all year long. If he can improve his finishing and take advantage of being the first option, a 25-point, 6-rebound sort of season is definitely in the cards."
At just 23 years old, Miller will be heading into his fourth year. This is the time for him to take the leap the Hornets have been waiting to see.
If Miller is able to take that kind of leap, Charlotte should be a playoff team.
With Ball no longer on the roster, the face of the franchise is now Miller. He will be facing a lot more responsibility this season. Hopefully, he's ready to take on that new role.
Expect to hear a lot more about Miller leading up to the new season. He has shown continued improvement throughout his first three years, but now it's time to take the leap into stardom.
