The Charlotte Hornets have multiple first-round picks as they look to upgrade their roster around the core of LaMelo Ball, Kon Knueppel, and Brandon Miller.

The Hornets hold the 14th and 18th overall picks, which give them a great chance to upgrade their roster. In a recent NBA Mock Draft by The Athletic, Charlotte selects Washington forward Hannes Steinbach with the 14th overall pick.

Steinbach had an impressive 2025 season with the Huskies, as he was named an All-Big Ten forward as a freshman. The 20-year-old averaged 18.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game, shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 34 percent from three.

Steinbach is one of the best rebounders in the 2026 NBA Draft, which could be valuable for the Hornets.

He could complement their young core of Ball, Knueppel, and Miller. Ball could also maximize Steinbach on offense, as he is a great playmaker. In the 2025-26 season, Ball averaged 20.1 points along with 4.8 rebounds while dishing out 7.1 assists per game.

Steinbach would join some other solid players in the frontcourt, as they have young centers, Ryan Kalkbrenner and Moussa Diabaté. Kalkbrenner had a solid rookie campaign, averaging 7.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks, shooting 75.3 percent from the floor.

Diabaté had a breakout campaign for the Hornets, averaging 7.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and a block per game while shooting 63.1 percent from the field.

Adding a player like Steinbach to the mix would allow Charlotte's young frontcourt to keep building and help the team as they make a push for the postseason in the 2026-27 season.

The Hornets saw Knueppel become a star in his rookie season, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting and averaging 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, shooting 47.5 percent from the floor and 42.5 percent from three.

He is a great shooter and scorer who could have an even bigger role in his second season. If Charlotte can add more to their young core with the 14th and 18th overall picks in the draft, it will go a long way in ending their playoff drought.
