The Georgia Bulldogs have been named as the top remaining team in the NCAA Tournament entering the super regionals. Kevin Skiver of USA TODAY ranked Georgia as the best team left in the field.
One reason why Georgia is the best remaining team is the Bulldogs have the highest remaining seed. Georgia is the No. 3 national seed, but No. 1 UCLA and No. 2 Georgia Tech both lost in their respective regionals.
There's a lot to like about this Georgia team right now. The Bulldogs have won 17 of their last 18 games including the SEC Tournament. The Georgia is 9-3 against teams left in the NCAA Tournament and their pitching staff delivered an impressive performance in the Athens Regional.
"Daniel Jackson is one of the best players left in this tournament, having cranked two homers in the regional round," Skiver said. Jackson is having arguably the best year of any player in the country. He's just the sixth player in NCAA history with 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases. However, Jackson will be without one of his best teammates, Tre Phelps, in Game 1 of the Athens Super Regional.
Skiver ranks Georgia's super regional opponent, Mississippi State, as the No. 13 team left in the field. Mississippi State is the No. 14 national seed. Skiver says that Mississippi State will "need even more out of their pitching staff" against Georgia after cruising through the Starkville Regional with a trio of dominant performances. Mississippi State is 0-4 against Georgia this season, but has an opportunity to end UGA's year with a pair of wins the Athens Super Regional.
