That was one of the lamest battles I've ever seen in that type of genre.

yeah... I thought the same thing. no TV show really has the budget to put together a battle like that battle needed to look like. and the end... "WE WON!" was just like... "eh".

loved all of the Tyrion stuff though. His speech was awesome.

Yea the ending was pretty lame too. I do agree about the speech though. The best was when Sandor says "**** the people! **** the city! and **** the King!" Then walks out.

That was priceless! :D

The battle sucked after the wildfire explosion. WTF was Stannis doing for the entire battle?

Wasn't he leading the charge? First boots on the ground. First up the ladder. Dude was kicking butt and taking names.

WTF was the smoke monster?

Smoke monster was created to do one thing. It did it and disappeared.

Still wondering why everyone is so critical of the battle. The explosion was one of the best effects ever done on television, but it was probably also one of the most expensive. If you remember, the big battle of Season 1 wasn't even shown--Tyrion went into the battle, got knocked out and the next shot was him waking up AFTER the battle was over.

This battle was impeccably stage, although putting it at night certainly helped to disguise some of the cheaper aspects of it. Think about the logistics of using that many extras along with the incredible gore that was displayed. The Hound was literally splitting guys in half with his sword. Plus, they had to build a castle wall that not only had to support all that weight atop it, but also be able to withstand ladders with heavy men on them as well. That was probably the most expensive sequence in the show and one of the most expensive EVER.

Remember, this is television, not movies. Return of the King had 94 million to work with for it's 3 hours. Game of Thrones had 60 in season one and probably a little less in season 2, and that's for 10 hours! I'm sure if they had 30 million an hour, it would have been more epic, but for what it was, it's pretty damn good. Probably the best episode of the series. Some of my favorite things from the books in there with Tyrion, The Hound and Sansa.

That was one the best TV battles I have ever seen. Considering they had a limited budget, limited number of sets, extras etc.......I don't think it could have been better executed. The explosion of ships....wow. If you were expecting big movie screen cinematic battle I can see why you would be let down. However, knowing this was TV...I was impressed.

Although I agree that the ending "we won" was anti-climatic and pretty damn lame....everything up to that point was pretty damn cool. It was almost like the writers shot their load with the proceeding battle and were to tired to write a better last minute. LOL. The only other lame aspect is it seemed that Stannis was fighting on that wall all by himself and didn't have much help from his men up there. Not very authentic as he would probably be surrounded by his best men.

The two things above are pretty nit-picky though. It was epic for a TV show. This probably points to a letdown in the finale but we will see.

yeah... the Stannis part of the battle was what really bumped me. the explosion was pretty damn cool and the Hound slicing people in half was pretty good, but I don't know... just on the whole, an episode that should have completely wowed me, just didn't smash me over the head like I expected... but then again, that's been the same way I've felt about the whole season.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better. Whatever the reasons and excuses IE budget. It just wasn't very well put together. After the ship explosion it was just a big meh. Just like the entire season.

Its just being faithful to its source material. In the book the reader has no idea what is happening with Stannis during that chapter.

And the reason why there was no smoke monster or whatever else the red chick could come up with is because she was not there, if you recall Davos asked Stannis to leave her at home, and he did.

That might very well be true but show me another movie where your leader is not surrounded by his best men fighting by his side. Not to mention it's just realistic.

Source material or not, logic should have dictated those scenes better.

I thought it was more to show that Stannis was a badass and him charging in there was a combination of that and the fact that half his army was decimated in the explosion. You could tell he was full of rage.

Wooooah, ease up there fellas. I bet most of the people in the thread have not read the books.

There are no spoilers there. :mulli:

:D

Seriously, book 3 is freaking weddings galore. I felt like I needed to renew my own vows during that book.

Sounds like more of a snooze fest than season 2. Weddings blow ass!

Maybe season 3's ending. Definitely not Season 2's.

I saw an interview with Martin in which he mentioned there will be some overlap between novels in the series..... I have been expecting the wedding to either end this season or start the next.... it has however been a few years since I read those particular books....maybe I am off with the timeline....but I recall the wedding being shortly after Jamie Lannister and the Maid of Tarth head out on their own.

I wouldn't expect the red wedding to take place until mid to late in season 3. Although I haven't been following the show in season two, so who knows. But there is a lot of build up with Robb's wife and the offense to the Freys, plus the edmure waffling, so unless it is crazy built up in the finale I would think it would lose a lot of the sting and feel rushed.

IF they pull from book three to close season two, which I don't think they would do, my guess would be the Wall storyline and Commander Mormont, that's a fairly early scene in book 3, the meltdown at Craster's keep. Jon going off to meet Mance and Mormont getting smoked. I'd also guess Sam the Slayer would happen in the finale too, since they found some dragonglass. IMO, that would be a nice spot to end the series season without dipping too far into book 3.
