Early in training camp, the Cleveland Browns don't seem to have an answer for the quarterback position. However, as Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson battle for the starting job, the winner will have a promising wide receiver to throw to in former Washington Huskies star Denzel Boston.
Ahead of his rookie season, as he pushes for a starting job in head coach Todd Monken's offense, Boston hasn't taken long to adjust to the NFL level.
When asked if the second-round pick reminded the longtime head coach of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and current San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans, Monken said it may be too early for that, but that the former UW star is displaying similar traits to the perennial All-Pro.
"Denzel has some of those attributes in terms of catch radius," Monken said on Monday. "I haven't seen yet the edge that Mike plays with, but he's still a rookie, and I wasn't there his first two years. But I think the catch radius and the ability to throw it up to him, you do see certain aspects of Mike's game in him."
Over his four years with the Huskies, Boston pulled in 132 catches for 1,781 yards and 20 touchdowns, most of which came in his final two years as the focal point of Jedd Fisch's passing attack.
Now at the NFL level, the Browns are hoping that the tandem of Boston and first-round pick K.C. Concepcion could be the combination to help transform the organization from one of the league's worst, to a potential contender for a playoff spot in the AFC North.
