Even though he fell out of the first round of the NFL draft, it hasn't taken former Washington Huskies star wide receiver Denzel Boston long to make an impact during early workouts with the Cleveland Browns.
"Denzel came in here wanting to show everyone what he can do. He was really upset about where the draft landed," wide receivers coach Christian Jones said of Boston's performance during mincamp.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound pass catcher has displayed his strong hands and impressive physicality throughout the offseason leading up to his rookie campaign, and combined with first-round pick K.C. Concepcion, Cleveland may have found a promising combination of receivers to build around as it continues to search for its quarterback of the future. With training camp up next in late July, Boston has also begun to generate some buzz as a potential Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate.
"This Browns offense with (head coach) Todd Monken is just begging somebody to come take ahold of the No. 1 wide receiver spot," Connor Rogers said on the NFL Stock Exchange podcast. "And Concepcion, understandably, is going to get a lot of the manufactured touches, but Boston is the guy where, if somebody is getting looks in the red zone through the air besides (tight end Harold) Fannin, to me it has to be Denzel Boston."
"I thought he was somebody that was a little underappreciated throughout some of this draft process, and I think the Browns have the right plan for him, and I know he's stood out already in (official team activities), which is a really, really good sign."
Over his four years with the Huskies, Boston put together 132 catches for 1,781 yards and 20 touchdowns, and his skill set could translate quickly to the next level, no matter if Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders is named Cleveland's starting quarterback.
