Former Reds pitcher Chris Paddack is joining the Rangers, per multiple reports.
According to MLB.com's Kennedi Landry and Dallas News' Shawn McFarland, Paddack is nearing a deal with the Rangers, though the team itself has not confirmed an agreement. Paddack was designated for assignment by the Reds on June 24, and he elected to become a free agent.
Paddack signed with the Reds on a one-year deal May 13 and played just one month in Cincinnati. He made two starts in losses to the Braves and Cardinals. He last played for the Reds against the Mets on June 17.
Through five games with the Reds, all losses, Paddack posted a 6.04 ERA. On May 23, in his Reds debut against the Cardinals, he recorded five strikeouts − a single-game high in his time at Cincinnati − while allowing seven hits in an 8-1 loss.
Paddack, who has seven years of MLB experience, started his 2026 season with the Marlins before getting designated for assignment by the team. In the 2026 offseason, he signed a one-year, $4 million contract with Miami. He also has played with the Padres, Twins and Tigers.
In Miami, Paddack started six games and posted a 7.63 ERA. His MLB career ERA is 4.84.
