2021 - Prove It
The hope is he can be a blocking weapon and situational player ala Kyle Juszczyk.
Juszczyk seems to have more wiggle to his game...I'd be thrilled if he could have a Juszczyk type impact, especially if you can move him into the backfield etc to mix things up.The hope is he can be a blocking weapon and situational player ala Kyle Juszczyk.
They have already used him as a FB... I imagine that will continueJuszczyk seems to have more wiggle to his game...I'd be thrilled if he could have a Juszczyk type impact, especially if you can move him into the backfield etc to mix things up.
30 catches would put him in the top 30 TEs. Yeah, that’s dramatic. You tell me man. I really aint in tune with drama...but it doesnt seem drastic for a second year jump.
but it would signal a change in the offense.... my thinking is, the coaches need to see what he can handle...just in case Trey goes down for an extended period. They know what Higgybear can do catching the ball but they also know his blocking is better suited for the edges instead of inline...they need to know if the play calling has to change drastically if Trey gets hurt and the only way to know that is to bump Tips role and see what he does with it.
What your post ignores is that when Kelce, McBride and kittle took those jumps they didn’t also have a McBride on the team. Also you’re measuring targets for those guys not catches. So for reiman to end up with 30 catches that’s likely at least 50 targets. And you used the three best tight ends in the game as a comparison. And those jumps they took WERE dramatic jumps. In fact, I think you just made MY argument that a jump from 6 to 30 catches would be a dramatic jump. Not IMO.
TEs are one of the hardest positions to adjust to in the NFL. You see some TEs making an early impact, but they are all receiving TE. Learning the blocking scheme is harder than the passing tree and TEs asked to do both do not make an immediate impact. McBride and Kelce hardly played as rookies. Kittle had 400 yards in his first 15 games as TE1 in a short passing game scheme and then clicked in the last game of the season and forward.
Kelce went from 0 to 87 targets from rookie to 2nd year player.
McBride went from 39 to 109 targets from rookie to 2nd year player.
Kittle went from 63 to 136 targets from rookie to 2nd year player.
Reiman came in as a blocking TE from a run heavy college team being asked to be a TE2 in a run-heavy 12 scheme. The coaches wanted him to focus on the blocking first because that is his primary job.
Reiman also came in as having the 2nd highest RAS score by any TE ever recorded at the combine (Only Pitts scored higher). Meaning that the athletic tool-set is there. Whether he is incapable of using that tool-set or the coaches decided not to utilize him in the passing game because he wasn't ready we do not know. BUT! Given the low number of targets and the fact that he was told to focus on the run game first, all indications are the latter of the two.
We know that he has worked the entire off-season on adopting the passing game better. We have rumors from the closed practices that he is being incorporated more into the passing game.
Based on all this. 30 is not dramatic at all IMO. I could easily see Reiman getting 30-45 receptions. I'm not saying he's an All-pro based on this. Just that he's much better than his numbers and usage suggest.
But you’re wrong. They can’t easily be found and if they have receiving ability it’s a great asset.Reiman is a good player for sure.
He was not and is still not 3rd worthy in terms of where he was drafted. Especially in the face of having just drafted McBride.
You can find run blocking TEs literally anywhere in the draft.
Well, the kid ain’t gonna see much playing time in passing downs with Brock Bowers on the depth chart ahead of them…. Less maybe they deploy old Patriots like offense?speaking of tight ends...
Im watching the Niners Raiders game.
The Raiders have this kid named Carter Runyon...undrafted free agent
But all of his negatives seem to be technique related,...and the kid went to college at Towson....yeah,...where? Towson.
But Im watching this 24 year old rookie(another negative)...just eat the niners defense alive...and if he was getting passes from a QB other than Aiden O'Connell...his numbers would be even more impressive.
the kid is 6'4" 250...of course Towson had him listed as 6'6" 265... but anyway...once the kid makes the catch he runs a lot like Boom Boom McBride...a YAC monster...
point being, other than me being semi excited the Raiders seemed to have found a legit TE threat....
dude is a clear receiving TE..and with a second round grade in his scouting reports he went undrafted..... Maybe blocking ability is important... the ability to pancake a starting NFL DE,...then taunt him about it..maybe it has value.
I think his best bet is just to compile some good tape so he can show his value in free agency...but with Pete at HC you never knowWell, the kid ain’t gonna see much playing time in passing downs with Brock Bowers on the depth chart ahead of them…. Less maybe they deploy old Patriots like offense?
Whether it’s dramatic or not was not my argument. What your post ignores is that when Kelce, McBride and kittle took those jumps they didn’t also have a McBride on the team. Btw, the argument isn’t whether he’s capable of that or not. We weren’t addressing that. So don’t think I am saying 30 is unreasonable (it’s not unreasonable imo - unlikely, but not unreasonable). It was whether it’s a dramatic jump. I don’t see how a 500% jump can be considered anything but dramatic for anyone b
But you were responding to me. And we were talking dramatic or not. No biggie.Whether it’s dramatic or not was not my argument.
I stated that I’m convinced Reiman will be an incorporated part of the offense. He’s simply too talented and on the field too much not to be and that 30 catches was realistic
Zero biggieBut you were responding to me. And we were talking dramatic or not. No biggie.
I’ll be shocked and stoked if he does. That means our tightends likely end up with 150+ receptions between the three of them. That seems like a lot.Zero biggie
But I was responding to whether 30 receptions were realistic. Not if it was dramatic.
Either way I think he will have 30-45 catchers and that will be a dramatic shift from his rookie output
Yeah to say you can find a blocking TE anywhere in the draft is just not true. But you’re wrong. They can’t easily be found and if they have receiving ability it’s a great asset.
Reiman should be one of the last conversations about a roster spot.
Would Juszczyk be worth a third rounder? I think so.The hope is he can be a blocking weapon and situational player ala Kyle Juszczyk.
I’m pretty sure the coach doesn’t want to show Tip’s receiving capability in the preseason.super curious to see how the Cards use Reiman in the passing game this year
should give us a sense on if he is viewed as a glorified third OT, or, if they see him as a more complete TE.
Again, I dont think he needs a ton of targets, but i do think he needs some or he wont be treated by the D as a receiver
It’s a failure if they don’t. A 6-7, 275 TE, who is more athletic than the LBs. That is a scary mismatchi on the other hand would like to throw to him primarily on 3rd downs and in the red zone - and i want defenses to know it
