Value is relative, especially in the light of draft capital spent. Blocking TEs / Full backs are usually rounds 5-7.

He is the check down option on play action. That's it.

He basically needs to be a top 5 blocking TE in the league to justify a 3ed round pick.
He probably already is. He's a freaking beast of a blocker already.

This is wonderful.

Look at us Cardinals fans!!

Here we sit...one week into pre season....and today our hottest debate is how much will our TE2 affect our passing game this year.

It's a testament to the work our staff has done the past couple years.

We are having this discussion and I haven't seen anybody suggest taking targets away from HiggyBear aka TE2.5

We have come a long way Birdgang
Let's not get too busy patting ourselves on the back yet - this is by all accounts a middle of the road roster after 2 years of purgatory. It's an improvement, yes, but there are still areas that can clearly be upgraded.

Last year's team was exactly middle of the road. You do not believe this team is better than last year's?

As a whole, that may be the case. But, from a talent standpoint, the D last year was definitely below middle of the road. The problem was the offense and defense did not complement one another. When the D played well, the O didn’t & conversely when the O played well, the D didn’t. Show me a defense that can’t consistently stop the run, and I’ll show you a team that will finish under .500. That was the 2024 Cardinals.

He’s either gotta be a better blocker than giving snaps to a 3rd or fourth OT or he has to occasionally run credible routes.

I’d rather give developmental snaps to Conner or whomever on the edge than play a TE you can’t pass to.
This is a deranged take which completely ignores the strategic advantage to having a great blocking tight end.

I can not find a single source that has him in in the top 10. I tried. I think we have perceived value here
I don't care what a source says, my eyeballs see this guy crushing people like no other Cardinals blocking TE. I've watched this team since 1994 and he's easily the most explosive blocker I've seen at the Tight End position for this team.

When I watch him, I see him win match up after match up. I see him plant Nick Bosa into the ground. He's a damn good blocking Tight End and I don't care what any ranking says because rankings are all still subjective in nature anyway.

Agree.
Tip surpasses the eyeball test.
He may not be explosive but he is a true all around TE...
Not many of those in the nfl right now with the trend towards pass happy offenses

Agreed. Can't wait for this thread to start posting his PFF run blocking grades this year.... Everyone will be stoked we have a top 5 blocking TE... BOOK IT.

He was drafted to fill a role that the offense deems important.
He’s filling that role. Why any angst?
Having a 3rd level OT that can run and catch passes is a good thing to me.

He’s only going to get better.

Maxx Williams is still the standard for duel threat Cardinal TEs.

If the kid can bring to the table what Williams did, he was worth a 2nd round pick. But he has to be able to make catches like at the 3:38 mark of this video:

30 years ago a TE like Tip would have been a first round pick... he definitely is not a guy like Kittle or McBride who is going to light up the highlight reels with incredible runs after the catch.
while not an exact match, he is closer to a Jeremy Shockey...he will make a catch...then rumble ahead possibly carrying a couple DB's with him as he goes.
I really kinda see Tip as a slightly larger version of Todd Christianson
But even by NFL TE standards...Tip is a very big dude.

if we can get that massive man machine fully involved in the passing game NFL DB's are gonna start faking injuries

The Cardinals want to be as violent as the rules allow & Reiman perfectly fits that role. McBride is an exceptional pass catcher & willing blocker, but he’s nowhere near the blocker that Reiman is. Those that don’t see the value he brings to this team were probably high school badminton stars lol.

That was such a fun game to watch! Murray seemed to throw the ball so much more easily then.
