The start of the 2026 NFL season is just around the corner, with training camp giving us a pretty good idea of which players are rising and falling on the depth chart. And that includes Pittsburgh Steelers running backs Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle, who could make or break some fantasy football seasons this year.
It's no secret that Warren faces stiff competition for the RB1 role in Pittsburgh's offense, as Dowdle is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with two different teams.
Dowdle has been getting the first-team reps at training camp, leaving several reporters to believe he may be "the guy" in Pittsburgh. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that Dowdle has a history with new head coach Mike McCarthy from their days with the Dallas Cowboys.
Taking a look at the average draft position on FantasyPros tells a different story, however, as Warren is coming in at 71.5 in PPR, 72.3 in half-PPR and 72 in standard scoring.
Dowdle, on the other hand, is being drafted approximately one round below Warren in every scoring format: 85.1 in PPR, 83.1 in half-PPR and 76.9 in standard.
While there's a reality where Pittsburgh uses Dowdle on early downs and Warren as a pass-catching option out of the backfield, the ADPs may be extremely misconstrued in regard to their actual usage in 2026. Honestly, Dowdle may be a league-winner if fantasy owners are able to snag him in the sixth round. But the same can't necessarily be said for Warren.
