One of the top priorities for new Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy was to find a replacement for running back Kenneth Gainwell. Gainwell was the team's MVP last season and McCarthy brought in veteran Rico Dowdle to pair with Jaylen Warren. The two combined for 2,034 yards in 2025.
However, when CBS Sports ranked their Top 10 running back tandems in the NFL, the best the Steelers twosome could get is an honorable mention.
Instead, they prioritized tandems with a top-tier starter, even if the backup isn't on the level of Dowdle or Warren. They don't even bother to put a backup with Christian McCaffrey and still rank the tandem at No. 9. The other pair we take issue with is the Arizona Cardinals with rookie Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier. As much potential as Love has, he's completely unproven in the NFL. I'm sure plenty of people had Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty on lists like this last year and he struggled a great deal.
With the improvements the Steelers have made to the offensive line, we could see both guys top 1,000 rushing yards in 2026.
