Four months ago, prior to the release of each player’s average draft position (ADP), I walked through the Steelers’ biggest fantasy bargain, bust, and wild card. Now that summer ADPs are starting to solidify, which players fit into these boxes?
Pat Freiermuth (TE28 ADP) is poised to be the best bargain. His low price is due largely to two factors: he was last year’s overall TE32, and he’s still technically competing for attention with Darnell Washington. But Freiermuth is better than his numbers. Aaron Rodgers had an 119.8 passer rating when targeting him. TE28 is his 2026 floor, but nowhere near his ceiling.
Rico Dowdle seems a bit risky at his RB33 ADP. The 28-year-old was rarely a workhorse in college, yet had 281 touches last season (including the playoffs) and 274 the year before. His yards per carry slipped down the stretch in both seasons. Operating as the 1B behind Jaylen Warren to begin Week 1, Dowdle lacks a clear path to weekly streamability and is a high-probability bust.
Nearly-forgotten backfield teammate Kaleb Johnson (RB102 ADP) is another reason I’m wary of Dowdle. Johnson is a misunderstood wild card -- a 2025 third-round rookie with three-down potential. He could wallow far behind Warren and Dowdle, or a strong camp could propel him to fantasy relevance. Remember, last summer he was the best-ranked Pittsburgh fantasy RB. A lot can happen in Year 2.
