I see you have never had good fried okra. It's not slimy at all, if properly prepared. Yes, frying it is best.
I could ask a 1000 people to show me pics of food from their phones and I’d bet no one would have one of okra in any form.

To you gumbo people okra in gumbo is like carrots in chicken noodle soup. It adds a little bit of flair but no one would miss either.

Question - what does the name "Gumbo" come from?

I've never had gumbo so I can't relate to that.

If you haven't tried sliced okra, rolled in cornmeal, fried to a golden brown, I'd suggest you try it before you knock it.

This picture thing on phones sounds real scientific... not.

I don't know if I have ever seen fried okra. The only okra I've ever seen/been around is the snotty looking stuff (when I was young). Because of that, I have never tried it. That and straight cottage cheese. :barf:

My favorite is to have an ice cold GLASS bottle of Coca-Cola, take a sip or two and then dump in a handful of shelled, skinned, and salted peanuts. Enjoy drinking the beverage and then eat the peanuts after the drink is gone.

Amazing especially on a hot day.
I tried it today and it was pretty great. I throughly enjoyed it. I’m actually surprised I’ve never heard of it before.

Thanks for the new snack to add to my rotation.

FWIW, I can't eat cottage cheese either.

I wouldn't eat okra if it was prepared slimy either.

It’s on the sides menu at Cracker Barrel

Why you want to mix good whiskey? Everything on the rocks for me. Just a couple small ones to chill it not water it down.
Oh I love bourbon neat and, on the rocks, as well if it's a good one. But an ice-cold jack and coke is a perfect complement to a cheeseburger. :)

I always thought it was Dr. Pepper and peanuts. Isn't there even a Tim McGraw song about that?

Nobody mixes good whiskey.
But Jack Daniels has never been good whiskey
Agree with this.

I’m a Mezcal guy myself and people think it’s Tequila and should be mixed in something as well. Good Mezcal should never be mixed and should be drank neat or on the rocks. I use chilled metal cubes at the house for my Mezcal.
