The Atlanta Falcons have made a final decision regarding their previously vacant general manager position — and it doesn't involve Pittsburgh Steelers assistant GM Andy Weidl, who interviewed for the job a week ago.

On Thursday, the Falcons named Ian Cunningham as their new general manager, passing up on Weidl despite capturing Atlanta's intrigue throughout the selection process.

Cunningham, who spent the past four seasons as assistant general manager of the Chicago Bears, was one of the top general manager candidates over the past month.

Weidl has had a solid impact on the Steelers' scouting process, specifically in rebuilding their offensive line, which featured the draft selections of Troy Fautanu, Mason McCormick, and Zach Frazier — all of whom have emerged as cornerstones for Pittsburgh.

While the Steelers were fortunate enough to hold onto Weidl, the same can't be said for their former offensive line coach Pat Meyer, who recently signed with the Buffalo Bills.
