Dang Commanders got unlucky and almost won last night in OT. Would have moved the Cardinals up to #7 overall in draft order. Right now they are at #8.
They’ll win when they get their QB & WR1 back. Disregard them. The bigger danger is Atlanta. They’re sobad the Cards might beat them.

Tankathon's current mock has the Cardinals taking the following players:

round 1. RT Spencer Fano Utah
round 2. QB John Mateer Oklahoma
round 3. RB Justice Haynes Mich
round 4. WR Zachariah Branch Georgia

I would be very happy with those first two picks as that is what I have been suggesting for the Cardinals early in this draft process. I also like Branch as an elite speed guy who can stretch the field.

idk why mocks go past the 2nd round - better chance at hitting the ncaa basketball bracket but i could live with thise first 2 picks

Get rid of Mateer and I'd be very happy with those picks.

I thought I seen where Mateer was staying in school….

I don’t have the gaps between them and others as big as most evaluators. It wouldn’t shock me if the Cards see it that way, move down, take an OT or WR and a QB in round 2 with the OT the most likely round 1 choice.
Harry, I didn't catch whether or not you evaluated the available QBs but I like us going and getting the best OL available and then draft Carson Beck. How does he compare to the other likely draft choices being selected before him? Beck has played in 2 different systems in college and has been fairly successful at both. He has won 2 national championships, his yards per attempt is 8.61, yards per completion is 12.32, and he converts 2.77 TD's to interceptions. However, he is projected to be in the 125-150 range. Why not load up on OL first round and second round and get Beck in the 3rd? He's proven more so than any of the other projected 1st rounders. I'm not not sure why he is projected as a 3rd or 4th rounder.

No on Materr! I watch a lot of OU football and in my opinion, Mateer is not going to be the answer for the future.

Been touting Branch all year, wouldn't be surprised if he goes round 3 I've seen him mocked there quite a bit. If he's not the fastest guy in the draft he's close.

Don't like Mateer at all, competes but he's a mediocre passer. I know he's been playing hurt but he's just not an accurate passer

Fano is the guy I think is our mostly likely pick at OL. Depends where we pick at 8 I think Fano is good value, at 5 he's a reach IMO there are better guys on defense

Have you watched Mateer play since the Texas game? He has been atrocious.

i guess since its December I can dive into draft talk

IF the Cards are drafting a QB: take him in round 1. Trade up if you have to (and can). It doesnt guarantee success, but the odds are so much better than later in the draft.

the round 2 or later QBs rarely work out -- but you have to give them a roster spot, practice reps, game reps as if they were a first rounder.

just did a quick projection on ending records at the top of the draft

the Cards would win just one more game (home vs Atlanta) and it seems likely they pick 8th

Is this sources or speculation because what I have read reported is opposite.
This is me all the way. Moore’s NIL money was $2.4 mil. The third contract in the 2024 draft was $36mil. If he returns to school and blows out an ACL he likely lost at least $10 mil. Morre says he’d like to stay. I’m guessing he has a non-contracted “agent.” His advice will be to take the money and run. The last guy who didn’t was Leinart and it cost him big time. The call it the Leinart Rule.

I don’t like Beck. You likely have his spot about right. For fairness other guys like him more than me. IMO he makes reckless throws at critical times. If you use the search function you can find my slightly more extensive early QB review.

yeah...folks way over value that NIL money...one year of NIL money in no way compares to a five year first round contract...unless the boosters are gonna write a guy a 20+million dollar check for one year of football.
if a guy reasonably believes he is going in the first round there is nothing to think about...go to the draft.

There is a decent chance that our draft position moves up to top 5 this week.

- We will likely lose to the Rams.
- NYJ over Miami.
- Washington over Minnesota.
- Cleveland over Tennessee.

As I have stated before though, I would rather us beat the Rams.
