The MLB Trade Deadline is exactly 15 days away, and the Los Angeles Dodgers have positioned themselves for a productive deadline.
With the recent outburst of outfielding prospects making strides in the minors for the Dodgers, the Los Angeles front office could dip their hands in the farm bowl and create a trade package for a big-time name, according to MLB.com.
Los Angeles has five outfielder prospects that rank in the Top 100: Mike Sirota, Zyhir Hope, Eduardo Quintero, Charles Davalan, and James Tibbs III.
Among those names, 21-year-old Josue De Paula (No. 4 ranked, per MLB Pipeline) is the standout prospect and seemingly untouchable if the Dodgers dabble in intense trade talks with other clubs.
De Paula has produced a slashline of .320/.416/.965 through 81 games with Double-A Tulsa Drillers.
When it comes to trade talks, the Dodgers and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman like to "hang around the backboard" before moving the lever during the deadline, as reported by Katie Woo of The Athletic last month.
When looking at the present day, the Dodgers have the best record in baseball (62-36), but they would like to stroll into the postseason with extensive depth.
More intently, the continued setbacks from three-time All-Star Will Smith regarding his neck inflammation and now working around Shohei Ohtani taking a break on the mound due to lingering knee issues raise questions.
At the same time, the Dodgers are expecting a flurry of players to make their way back to the club, with a total of three players on rehab assignments.
On the pitching front, Edwin Díaz has made two appearances for Single-A Ontario Tower Buzzers, and Blake Snell had his first rehab outing on Saturday for Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets.
Kiké Hernández is also trudging his way along, as he started a rehab assignment with OKC on Saturday as well.
If need be or if the market fits the Dodgers' desire, they could part ways with a pair of outfield prospects to further enhance their World Series chances. A potential move at the deadline that involves some prospects could smooth out the wrinkles that the Dodgers are currently facing.
