MLB.com’s listed Los Angeles Dodgers No. 1 prospect Josue De Paula as a potential trade chip at this season’s trade deadline.
The idea that the Dodgers would ship out MLB’s No. 8 prospect would normally be ridiculous, but with how the deadline is shaping up, they could very well part with a top prospect to land one of the best pitchers in the game: Tarik Skubal.
That being said, MLB.com’s Sonja Chen made sure to stress that any of the Dodgers’ top prospects could fill the same role as De Paula as a trade chip.
“The Dodgers’ farm system is rich in outfielders, and De Paula is the cream of the crop,” Chen wrote. “It would be surprising if L.A. dealt its top prospect at the Deadline, but this is more about what he represents. Fellow outfielders Zyhir Hope, Eduardo Quintero and Mike Sirota, to name a few, could each realistically headline a package if the Dodgers feel that they need to make a significant Deadline addition to bolster their three-peat bid.”
De Paula is having an amazing season in Double-A Tulsa, posting a .971 OPS through 54 games played so far. He has 10 homers and 53 RBIs, and is showing why he holds the title as the Dodgers’ best prospect.

Who Could the Dodgers Trade Josue De Paula For?
The Dodgers are known to be rather aggressive at the trade deadline, but it’s unlikely they’d trade De Paula for anything less than Skubal—and it seems unlikely they’d even do that.
LA has several other prospects who would get the job done if they were to strike a deal for the left-hander, as they have one of the best farm systems in MLB.
Skubal would certainly command a prospect around De Paula’s level, though, as he has been one of the best pitchers in MLB for the last few years.
He won the AL Cy Young in 2024 with a 2.39 ERA and an MLB leading 228 strikeouts, then got even better in 2025 to win the award with a 2.21 ERA and 241 strikeouts in 195.1 innings. Even though he has just a half season of team control, he will be a key addition for any team despite his high price point.
