With just four more games left to be played before the All-Star break, Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts provided some updates regarding some players on the Injured List ahead of the rubber match decider against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.
Since the Dodgers began their last home stand of the first half, Tyler Glasnow has been ramping up his throwing progression and even made a big step in his rehab before Tuesday's game as he threw his first bullpen session.
Though it's a positive step in the right direction, Glasnow is still a way away from progressing even further.
"I think he feels good. I haven't heard anything otherwise. But I haven't heard much of a progression either," Roberts told the media via the Bleed Los Podcast.
Glasnow was transferred from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL on June 6.
The biggest development in terms of injured Dodgers making their way back has been the massive uptrend in Kiké Hernández's recovery.
Since Hernández tore his left oblique just two games from returning from the IL after elbow surgery this past offseason, the Dodgers were prepared to be without him for an extended period of time.
According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, the Dodgers now anticipate having Hernández return before the month of July concludes.
This has all aligned with how well Hernández has improved throughout his rehab. He's been continuing to field ground balls and has been a participant as a batter for both of Edwin Díaz's live throwing sessions.
Next stop is a rehab assignment, but Roberts wants to hold off on that til Hernández's IL window closes, which is 20 days from now.
"I would assume at one point soon," Roberts said on the status of Hernández beginning his rehab assignment. "I just don't know how much time he wants to spend in the minors. He's taken live ABs and he looks really good."
Speaking of Edwin Díaz, he has two live throwing sessions to hitters down his belt.
During Tuesday's session, Roberts stated that the ball was coming out of Díaz's hands well, but he was struggling with his command. As it stands, Díaz is sitting at 94-95 mph on his heater, according to Roberts.
Previously, Roberts had stated that the right-hander would be sent to Arizona during the All-Star break to resume his throwing progression. Fast forward to today, it is up in the air what the next move will be for the newest Dodgers reliever.
"I'm not sure as we sit here on Wednesday, when is the next time he's going to throw. My assumption will probably be Sunday, something like that," Roberts said.
