LeBron James took his sweet time to make a free agency decision. Twenty-four days, to be exact.
He's landed on the Philadelphia 76ers, with ESPN's Shams Charania reporting the four-time MVP is signing a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option. James shared his reasoning behind the move in a lengthy statement on social media.
The public was anxiously awaiting James' decision, but if we looked closely enough, it apparently was right in front of our eyes. Back at Fanatics Fest earlier this month, James casually dropped a "Trust the Process" comment and the 76ers fans there went wild.
James insisted he'd been using the phrase long before Philly adopted it during its tanking years, but it's hard not to think he was playing 4D chess while the rest of us were playing checkers.
Philadelphia looked to be a distant fourth in the race for James, with the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors the other contenders. Here's why he chose Philly, where he'll join Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecomb, Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid for a stacked starting lineup.
