On Friday, LeBron James was at Fanatics Fest in New York City for the second day in a row. On Thursday, he did a live recording of his "Mind the Game" podcast at the event; this time, he did his show "The Shop" before a live audience.
As was the case on Thursday, James was urged to reveal which NBA team he will play for this coming season. Again, he said that there is no announcement to be made yet.
There were some Philadelphia 76ers fans in attendance when James was speaking, and, of course, the 76ers are thought to be one of the frontrunners for his services. James decided to ruffle their feathers when he explained one thing he's looking for in his next team, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
The venue erupted in both cheers and boos when James said, "Trust the process." That's the infamous phrase former Sixers executive Sam Hinkie used about a decade ago when the team started to rebuild, and it was later used by franchise player Joel Embiid.
Embiid was drafted in 2014, and over the years, "the process" has taken many twists and turns. This summer, Philly stunned the league by trading for Jaylen Brown, the five-time All-Star wing who helped lead the Boston Celtics to the NBA championship in 2024 and won finals MVP honors that year.
With Embiid, Brown and Tyrese Maxey, Philly may already have a championship-caliber team, even if Embiid, as he often does, misses dozens of regular-season games due to injury. As a result, many feel the 76ers would offer James his best shot at winning his fifth ring.
James claimed that he had used the phrase "trust the process" long before Hinkie started to.
With that, the world continues to await where he will spend his 24th NBA season.

"Most important is I want to compete," James said. "I want to compete at a high level. I want to join a franchise that kind of shares the same motto as myself and that's practicing championship habits every day, but trusting the process more than anything. I think you trust the process of actually getting to that point …"

"I've been saying 'trust the process' since I was drafted in, like, 2003," James said. "I don't know if Embiid was even born yet."
With that, the world continues to await where he will spend his 24th NBA season.
