Regardless of how many career accolades a player may have, there's always risk of decline when bringing in a long-time veteran player. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Nolan Arenado is a prime example.

Arenado is nearing 35 years old, and is a veteran of 13 major league seasons, with one of the most sparkling resumes in baseball. Though his defense was still of an elite caliber in 2025, his bat sputtered to a career-low .237/.289/.377 slash. He also spent a decent chunk of the year on the IL with a shoulder injury.

Nolan Arenado's advice to the younger generation regarding hitting: "Less is more"

Put the bat on the ball and let your mechanics do the rest

Archie Bradley on the Nolan Arenado trade:"He’s one of the greatest players of our generation. I think he’s one of the most consistent hitters. And I think he’s one of the few guys who shows up every day to win. Mix that in with what the D-Backs already have, and I love it.”

Arenado has not been a "MLB Star" for some time in St. Louis. He is relying on the past for star status, not recent performance. He is old but may bring a positive veteran presence to the clubhouse. He can still play a decent third base at his age, but his bat is suspect. His expiration date is approaching as he is the 2nd oldest third baseman in MLB.

Nolan Arenado is starting to figure it out and the rest of baseball should be worried

Last 5 Games:
.368/.350/.842
20 PA
.497 wOBA
214 wRC+
3 HR
9 RBI

The Diamondbacks will be on another level if he starts to really get going for an extended period of time

Nolan Arenado is one of just five players with 7 multi-hit games since April 13.

In the span of just two weeks, Arenado has become one of the most productive hitters in the Diamondbacks' lineup!
