Arenado is past his expiration date and has been going downhill in St. Louis for some time. They've been trying to trade him even longer than the DBacks were trying to trade Marte. His glove is still OK at his age but his bat is not exactly "prime time".
Players love to hit at Chase Field. I would not be surprised if he hits better this year.

Someone didn't add that right. Yes he had that amount of errors and innings total but it was over 3 positions. He had 4 errors in just 76 innings at 3b. His best position is defensively is 2b

I think signing Arenado resigns Lawlar, Tawa and Alexander to fighting for time in the OF (Blaze in left, Lawlar platooning with Thomas in CF?) Tawa will probably get plenty of time at 1B unless they sign someone (Goldschmidt?), Vargas, Alexander and Lawlar will have to scratch for IF time unless Marte spends more time as DH.

Perdomo, SS (Lawlar, Vargas)
Marte 2B (Vargas, Alexander, Lawlar, Tawa)
Carroll, RF (Barrosa, Tawa)
Moreno, C (McCann, Del Castillo)
Smith/???, 1B (Tawa, Locklear)
Arenado, 3B (Alexander, Tawa, Vargas)
Del Castillo/???, DH
Alexander, LF (Tawa, Barrosa)
Thomas/Lawlar, CF (Tawa, Barrosa, Alexander)

Marte and Moreno may get at bats as the DH, but signing a RH-hitting 1B would cure some of their issues. A healthy Gurriel would solve another.

Apparently Waldschmidt is going to get the chance to earn the LF job in Spring. I was such a fan of the pick when it happened. Legit bat

Ironically Waldy was chosen with the comp pick for Corbin Carroll starting as a rookie and winning ROY. If Waldy wins the job, he could repeat that feat.

"With Arenado on the roster, there's a good chance that they find themselves in the playoffs." What? Really? The homer who wrote that article is a firm believer in unicorns. DBacks need pitching more than anything else. Pitching will get them to the playoffs, not Nada Arenado.

I very disagree. I have outlined the roster challenges this off season and Arenado absolutely checks a box fpr a pittance.
