Since 2006, the SEC has largely dominated college football, with 13 of the 19 national championship winners coming from this conference.
Among these teams, the Alabama Crimson Tide excelled the most, winning six national championships during this period. The LSU Tigers claimed two titles, while the Auburn Tigers and Florida Gators each won one and two championships, respectively. The Georgia Bulldogs won the two most recent championships.
Notably, the Bulldogs are the only SEC team to have won a national championship since 2020, achieving back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. However, they missed the playoffs in 2023 and were eliminated in the quarterfinals in 2024. This decline led David Pollack to state on his podcast, "See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack," that he no longer considers Georgia to be in the top tier of teams heading into 2025.

"I feel like every year we've gone into is going, 'Georgia's the best team,'" Pollack said. "Georgia and Ohio State vs. everyone else. Georgia and who? This year, I've got four, five, six, seven teams that I'm like, 'Okay, they might be fighting for that next tier of the next five.'"
Georgia returns 45% of its overall production, ranking No. 105 in the nation. This comes after going 11-3 and winning the SEC championship over the Texas Longhorns in 2024. The Bulldogs bring back only 41% of their offensive players, which puts them at No. 108, and 48% of their defensive players, ranking No. 93 in the country.
Notable players who will not be returning include wide receivers Arian Smith and Dillon Bell, tight end Oscar Delp, offensive lineman Tate Ratledge, offensive guards Dylan Fairchild, and defensive ends Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins.
Additionally, offensive tackle Xavier Truss, safeties Dan Jackson and Malaki Starks, linebackers Chaz Chambliss and Smael Mondon and defensive tackles Warren Brinson and Nazir Stackhouse will also be absent. This list does not include starting quarterback Carson Beck, who transferred to Miami.
The Bulldogs will need to regroup quickly as they open their season against Marshall on August 30. They hope a strong season will put them back at the top of college football.
