Two Game 7s were forced last night, one including a Boston Bruins’ minor league affiliate.

In Bruins news, a 21-year-old has lit up the IIHF World Championships. He has three points in his first two games, and while other Bruins have hit the scoresheet, he leads all of them in points. Also, there’s an elephant in the goaltending room. It’s hard to ignore one of the Providence goaltenders, and his performance may force the Bruins to make a move this summer.

Whether it is him, the current backup, or no moves, we will find out as the summer goes on, or the answer will be at training camp.

The Maine Mariners lost Game 6, but they have one more chance to move on to Round 3 on Monday night.

Elsewhere around the NHL, the Buffalo Sabres forced a Game 7 with an 8-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens. The Sabres are 5-1 on the road and 2-4 at home this playoffs, and Game 7 is in the beautiful city of Buffalo. The Wild explored a trade for the Blues’ No. 1 center, and the Devils, if they make a move, have targets for a new center.

A new Panthers jersey also leaked yesterday.

Happy Sunday, catch up on Bruins and league news in today’s Daily Bean:

Boston Bruins

GOALTENDING: There’s a decision to make in the Bruins goaltending room. Michael DiPietro has proven himself at the AHL level, with two straight Bastien Awards plus an MVP, but the Bruins have a trusted backup goaltender in Joonas Korpisalo.

MINTEN: Fraser Minten is on fire at the IIHF World Championships. He has three points (1-2–3) in his first two games with Team Canada, and he has been skating with Porter Martone and Connor Brown.

Canada plays Denmark on Monday at 10:20 AM.

IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Check out who is playing, how to watch, and the eight Bruins’ schedules for the IIHF World Championships.

Here are the Bruins who played at the World Championships yesterday:

Also, I forgot to mention Blumel’s goal (empty net) and assist on Friday.

Prospects Update

MAINE: Game 7. The Wheeling Nailers (PIT) took Game 6 on home ice last night, picking up a 2-1 win in overtime. Emil Pieniniemi scored the overtime winner, coming on the power play at exactly 17:00.

  • Game 2: at Wheeling – WHL wins 4-1
  • Game 3: at Maine – MNE wins 6-3
  • Game 4: at Maine – MNE wins 2-1 (2OT)
  • Game 5: at Maine – MNE wins 5-3
  • Game 6: at Wheeling – WHL wins 2-1 (OT)
  • Game 7: at Wheeling – Monday, May 18, 7:10 PM

NHL News & National Hockey Now

Montreal Hockey Now: Four goalies played. The Buffalo Sabres forced a Game 7 last night, stomping on the Canadiens at the Bell Centre. Alex Lyon started, but he allowed three goals on three shots and was yanked for Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. The Sabres scored the game’s last seven goals.

Game 7 is on Monday at 7:30 PM.

PLAYOFFS:

  • A1 – Sabres (3) vs. A3 – Canadiens (3)
  • M1 – Hurricanes (4) vs. M3 – Flyers (0)
  • C1 – Avalanche (4) vs. C3 – Wild (1)
  • P1 – Golden Knights (4) vs. P3 – Ducks (2)

The Athletic ($): The Minnesota Wild swung and missed trying to acquire Robert Thomas at the trade deadline. They offered Danila Yurov and Jesper Wallstedt in a package to the Blues, according to Michael Russo and Joe Smith.

The Wild are also prioritizing a No. 1 center this summer.

New Jersey Hockey Now: Trading Nico Hischier might be a bad idea, but not if it is for the oldest Hughes brother. Say they do, James Nichols has some options to fill the center void.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings needed more out of goaltender Cam Talbot this season. Kevin Allen had him graded at a C-, as he finished with a 3.19 GAA and .883 SV%. He only made 14 appearances after the New Year, coinciding with John Gibson taking off into a premium goaltender.

Jersey Nerds (via ): The Florida Panthers’ “Hometown Remix” jersey leaked! It’s pink, and the palm tree logo is returning. A Reddit user spotted it on eBay, and it was not the only listing on the website.

LEAK ALERT

We may have out first look at one of the upcomming Hometown Remix jerseys courtesy of sharp-eyed redditor, u/Manic_Matcha, spying this pink Panthers jersey on ebay.

It's not the lone listing either, with ebay seller OMH also having one listed. pic.twitter.com/CNZSzJujIT

Wondering about the Bruins’ jersey?

It’s reported to be brown. The same report had Florida wearing pink.
