Okay, I'm going off the wall with this one today. You know me; my CV on trading back for "moar picks" is well known. Assuming we can't/won't trade up for Mendoza, what should we do at #3? My suggestion, if we don't stick and pick, is to go all in on 2027. I don't mean stockpile some picks for a move up, I mean stockpile ALL the picks we get for 2027. If possible, do multiple trade downs, demanding all the picks in return be for 2027. This has an added benefit of getting higher picks (usually if it would be this year's 2 it would be next year's 1, etc). Then, are you ready for the kicker...drum roll please...wherever we land in the 1st round after trading down, trade THAT pick for 2027 picks. Essentially, don't draft in the 1st round of the 2026 draft.
Why do this when we need immedi8ate talent infusions? #1, if we don't get Mendoza or radically hit on the next Darnold, we ain't winning jack in 2026 anyway. There's no use loading the roster for a QB in 2027 if we cannot with 100 percent surety guarantee we can get a good one where or near where we draft next year. If Monti and Co are going to force me into enduring the magic beans strategy, then freaking go all out with the magic beans strategy and have like 10 1st-3rd round picks next year.
