Okay, I'm going off the wall with this one today. You know me; my CV on trading back for "moar picks" is well known. Assuming we can't/won't trade up for Mendoza, what should we do at #3? My suggestion, if we don't stick and pick, is to go all in on 2027. I don't mean stockpile some picks for a move up, I mean stockpile ALL the picks we get for 2027. If possible, do multiple trade downs, demanding all the picks in return be for 2027. This has an added benefit of getting higher picks (usually if it would be this year's 2 it would be next year's 1, etc). Then, are you ready for the kicker...drum roll please...wherever we land in the 1st round after trading down, trade THAT pick for 2027 picks. Essentially, don't draft in the 1st round of the 2026 draft.

Why do this when we need immedi8ate talent infusions? #1, if we don't get Mendoza or radically hit on the next Darnold, we ain't winning jack in 2026 anyway. There's no use loading the roster for a QB in 2027 if we cannot with 100 percent surety guarantee we can get a good one where or near where we draft next year. If Monti and Co are going to force me into enduring the magic beans strategy, then freaking go all out with the magic beans strategy and have like 10 1st-3rd round picks next year.

They might be able to do this with a pick or 2, but they’ve got to at least fix the Oline.

I would take some 2028 picks in return, too. If you need to move up on 2027, a lot of teams will want to spread picks across multiple drafts. It's not easy to bring in 10-15 rookie draftees in one shot.

Make the line the primary focus of FA.

I'm not saying trade every single 2026 pick away. Get as much as you can from your 1st round pick, converting it all into 2027 picks, is what I'm advocating.

Here's a hypothetical. Trade down to #10 for, I dunno, a 2027 1st, a 2027 2nd, two 2027 thirds, and a 2027 4th. That leaves us with no 1st rounder in 2026 but almost a whole extra draft's worth of picks in 2027,

You'd still have plenty of remaining picks for that, free agency, and the undrafted market (most teams have some UDFA OL.

It's quite weird, especially considering our stances on the Anderson trade. The Cards then and now are about the same spot.

The Cards need more than a few players to be competitve... but now the players in this upcoming draft pool aren't as good as they were then, making a trade down even more appealing...

I like the strategy directionally

the best bet will be that #3 pick for some team in the teens that believes they are that one piece away from being a contender and just need a really good _________

maybe in the 2nd as well for somebody who loves one of the Tier 2 QBs

Stockpiling picks is one way to go, however i love this wild idea of using the picks we have to draft players that stay healthy and are good.
