COYOTES_BEAT KINGS 6-4 - NAGY NETS HAT TRICK

By:_ Damon Markiewicz

If you asked Phoenix Coyotes fans what they are thankful for on this special holiday, one name may be repeated quite often._ Left wing Ladislav Nagy.

Nagy recorded his first career hat trick and added one assist in leading the Coyotes to a
6-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night in front of 13,751 at AWA._ The victory snapped Phoenix’s three-game losing streak and improved their record to 7-9-5-1 on the season._

“It obviously feels good to collect my first hat trick,” said Nagy, who is tied for third in the National Hockey League in goals with 13._ “My linemates Shane (Doan) and Daymond (Langkow) played really well and it was a game we desperately needed to win._ Our line was able to generate some offense tonight and we capitalized on our opportunities.”

Not only did Nagy collected his first hat trick, but he also set a new career high for points in a game with his four-point effort against the Kings._ Nagy continues to lead the Coyotes in scoring this season with 13-12-25 totals in 21 games.

“Ladislav (Nagy) is evolving into an elite player in this league,” said Coyotes captain Shane Doan, who scored his eighth goal of the season and added two assists in the win._ “Nagy has a great shot and tremendous skill and has played some very good hockey for us this season.”

The trio of Nagy, Doan and Daymond Langkow combined for four goals and nine points on Thursday night._ All three players were named one of the game’s three stars against Los Angeles and they are currently the Coyotes top three point producers on the young season.

“That line of Nagy, Doan and Langkow had another solid effort for us tonight,” said Coyotes head coach Bob Francis._ “They complement each other so well and they produced when we needed some offense._ They were a big reason why we won tonight’s game.”

_It didn’t take the combination long to open the scoring._ Nagy scored his first marker of the night at 9:40 of the first period when he one-timed Doan’s pass behind Kings goaltender Roman Cechmanek giving Phoenix a 1-0 lead._ The Coyotes expanded their lead to 2-0 when Branko Radivojevic snapped a quick wrist shot past Cechmanek at 11:19 of the opening period.

“We wanted to get off to a fast start tonight and we did that with the early 2-0 lead,” said Francis._ “What we have to avoid is giving up goals and allowing teams to get back in the hockey game._ We got a little complacent with the advantage and that is something that we need to correct.”

Los Angeles cut their deficit to 2-1 when Aaron Miller scored his first goal of the season with 5:27 remaining in the first period beginning the shift in momentum in the Kings’ favor.

Los Angeles continued their energy into the middle period and scored twice within the first two minutes taking over the lead at 3-2. Mike Cammalleri tied the score at 2-2 at 1:01 of the second period when he scored on the power play._ Just 45 seconds later, Jon Sim wristed a shot past Coyotes goaltender Sean Burke.

“They were able to get a couple quick goals in the second period and that set us back,” said Burke, who finished the night with 39 saves in recording his seventh win of the season._ “We were able to bounce back and regain our focus late in the second period.”

Nagy pulled the Coyotes even with his second goal of the game at 11:30 of the second period tying the score at 3-3._ Phoenix regained their lead with 3:05 remaining in the middle period when Nagy set up Doan for his eighth tally of the season giving Phoenix a 4-3 edge.

Just 28 seconds into the third period, Nagy capped off his magical night with his third marker of the game giving the Coyotes a 5-3 lead._ Los Angeles would inch to within one goal at 5-4 late in the third period, but left wing Tyson Nash sealed the victory for Phoenix when he scored into an empty net with 47 seconds remaining in regulation time.

“We don’t want to get too high about this win,” said Nash, who registered his first goal as a member of the Coyotes in the triumph._ “We allowed 43 shots on goal and Sean (Burke) played great for us, especially in the final 20 minutes._ There is no way we can continue to allow that many shots in a game and have success.”
