Heading into the divisional round against the Houston Texans, the New England Patriots could be without one of their best defensive players in Christian Gonzalez, who is in concussion protocol.

During a win against the Los Angeles Chargers, All-Pro corner Christian Gonzalez would leave the game early with a possible concussion. Initially, Gonzalez would be listed as questionable to return after an awkward collision with Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnson, who hit Gonzalez, then landed on Gonzalez's head.

After the game, it was reported that Gonzalez felt fine, but would not speak to the media, which is standard for all players who have had a possible head injury in the game.

Against the Chargers, the Patriots would stick to a shutdown man defense, and Gonzalez would lock down his island, allowing zero catches on five targets before leaving the game. The Patriots still have a great defense, but going up against the weapons the Houston Texans provide could prove costly if they are without Gonzalez's lockdown defense.

More information will be provided about Gonzalez's status this week, heading into the divisional round. The Patriots are hoping to have all hands on deck for the style of play head coach Mike Vrabel likes to display: every defensive position player able to lock down any opposing offensive presence.
