Not surprised on McCoy being cut as it sure looked like his arm was dead. Best of luck to him had a nice career as a long term backup and spot starter. Very professional and a class act. Could be an excellent coach.

IMO, you either do things the right way or you don’t. This was not done the right way IMO. No excuses to let it get this far. Colt is a know quantity as a QB.

IMO the absolute best you could expect from the situation is they make this decision 10-14 days ago.

Outright releasing Hopkins w/ no compensation
Trading Simmons for a 7th round pick
Getting Dobbs for a 5th.
Waiting until just now to release Colt when it was obvious he wasnt any better than the younger alternatives

Monti is going to be the GM that teams want to trade with because they know he can be fleeced

I think it is pretty clearly a mistake. They are either starting the NFL season with a rookie who has taken limited snaps with the first team or a journeyman vet who has taken limited snaps with the first team. I don't know how that puts players into positions to be successful and compete.
I think in the long run it's not going to matter.

What do you think would be the right way to handle the colt situation? When they drafted Tune, he was a 5th round project. He’s still a project, but seems to be further along then originally thought when drafted. McCoy’s arm seemed to be dead after the Chief’s game. Then going into joint practice against MN, the talk about town was how awful McCoy looked. The FO put a plan in place to get a QB that can compete with Tune for the starting job until Murray comes off the PUP. I don’t know what else they could’ve done differently. I understand not liking the Dobbs trade or some of the other moves the FO has made this off-season, but I feel that they handled this situation just fine.

What is the right way in your opinion?
