The New York Giants are retaining outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen under new head coach John Harbaugh.
Bullen, who impressed as interim defensive coordinator late in the 2025 season, has withdrawn from remaining defensive coordinator searches elsewhere. He will stay with the team and add the title of run-game coordinator.
Bullen is also receiving a contract extension.
Bullen's brief stint calling defensive plays revitalized the Giants' unit, shifting to an aggressive approach that improved pressure, coverage variety, and key performers like rookie linebacker Abdul Carter, Brian Burns, and Dexter Lawrence.
The defense cut points, yards, and rushing production significantly in his games, drawing coordinator interest from teams including the Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, and Cleveland Browns.
Despite the buzz, Bullen opts for stability in New York. His expanded role overseeing run-game coordination highlights Harbaugh's confidence in his defensive expertise, particularly against the run—where the Giants struggled earlier but rebounded under Bullen.
He remains viewed as a strong DC candidate for future cycles.
