Did you actually turn down an opportunity with them?

No, I never even conceived it was a possibility until I was well underway in terms of work.

But with my core skill (accounting), I guess it would have been possible to at the very beginning pick up stakes, move to Phoenix, and start as an accounts payable clerk or something for the Cardinals. Sometimes I wonder what might have been if I would have done so.

How about you Cardsfaninlouky?

I'm a lifer at UPS in Louisville, it's the biggest UPS facility in the world. Going on 30 years there this year. I make over $100,000/year & my pay goes up August 1st each year so I'm doing well. Not really a skill like you but it's a good job, damn good job, they pay for all of mine & my daughter's health insurance & it's top of the line insurance. I can do a lot of things construction wise as far as a skill goes, drywall, concrete, carpentry but I'm glad i chose UPS over those or bartending, I actually went to bartending school in early 93 lol.

Being a Syracuse guy, you might appreciate this story. I grew up in Syracuse & went to college in Rochester (RIT). When I graduated in 1980, I came back home and managed to get an interview with longtime Syracuse AD Jake Crouthamel for a position in his Athletic Department. The Dome had just been built & I got a tour of what was then an incredible structure. I remember walking into his office & it was smoke filled to the point that I could barely see him behind his desk. Long story short, he lowballed me, and I didn’t take the job. I spent over 30 years in Corporate Sales with FedEx, so I did just fine. But, I always wonder what might have happened if I had taken that job. Maybe I would have been replacing Jim Boeheim a few days ago???

Ooh, can we have a FedEx/UPS virtual knife fight on this thread? :D
I have a first cousin that spent his whole career with UPS in a similar position as mine. When you work in sales with either of these companies, there are so many customer outings (sporting events, golf tournaments, concerts, etc., etc) that you have to attend. To be honest, one grows tired of it after a while. But, we attended each other’s events many times over the years. Of course, we had to go as a customer, so we had plenty of homework to do to make sure we didn’t get caught. We always pulled it off & had a blast doing it. And these 2 companies definitely do hate each other, so getting caught would have probably cost us our jobs. I met plenty of awesome people at UPS & he would say the same about FedEx. Fun times!!
