The only thing rolling for the Chicago Bears in the wild-card round is Caleb Williams' ankle.

It has been a tough return to the postseason for the Bears, who haven't played a home playoff game since the 2018 season. They faced a 21-3 halftime deficit against the Green Bay Packers, who couldn't be stopped in the first half.

While trying to stage a second-half comeback, something they've done all season, things got a little funky when Williams went down favoring his ankle early in the third quarter.

The quarterback rolled out to his right, hoping to make for a manageable fourth down try. Instead the pass fell incomplete and Williams fell to the turf, favoring that ankle.

Replays showed that the quarterback rolled it after letting go of the ball. He landed awkwardly and appeared to be in pain, but limped off the field. He didn't require a stint in the blue medical tent and returned to action on Chicago's next drive, facing a 21-6 deficit.

The Amazon Prime broadcast mentioned that Williams was not attended to by training staff while on the sideline.

Williams didn't miss a play after rolling his ankle and wasn't attended to by the Bears training staff while on the sideline.

It doesn't appear to be an issue that will keep the quarterback out of the game, but it could compromise some of his mobility.

Should that become an issue and force a change at the most important position in sports, Tyson Bagent would be Williams' replacement.

Bears QB depth chart

  • Caleb Williams
  • Tyson Bagent
  • Case Keenum

Bagent is the only other active quarterback on the roster for the Bears' wild-card game. Keenum was not designated as the emergency third quarterback and was made inactive for the contest.
