Caleb Williams already has a claim as the most successful quarterback in Chicago Bears history. At the very least, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick is the best Bears quarterback since Jay Cutler.
While Williams came up 58 yards short of becoming the first quarterback to eclipse 4,000 passing yards in a Bears uniform — Chicago is the only NFL franchise without a 4,000-yard passer in its history — he led the Bears to their first playoff win in 15 years.
Along the way, he invented new ways to irritate the Green Bay Packers and their fans. Cheesegrating is the fastest-growing hobby in Chicago because of Williams. And now that he’s the first-ever Bear to grace the cover of ‘Madden,’ he took a friendly shot at one of the Packers’ most famous fans.
While promoting the ‘Madden 27’ cover, Williams was asked about Lil Wayne’s tweet about the Packers losing their NFC wild-card game to the Bears and Williams “with purple nails.” Williams has long painted his nails as a form of self-expression and a homage to his mother, a nail technician.

“I know the tweet; I know it well,” Williams said, per Bleacher Report. “I like to respond. It’s fun. You get to troll kind of back. People like to say whatever they like to say, especially on the other side. They’re losing to a guy with painted nails. I know it bothers them, and it’s funny to me. I actually enjoy it when they talk trash, when they say stuff. I. like to troll back if I ever see it.”
Williams also delivered a parting message to Weezy: “All respect to him. He’s one of the greatest. Pay kudos to him. But on this line of what I do and what we do, he doesn’t know too much about it.”
Williams led the Bears in two epic comebacks against the Packers last season. First, Chicago pulled off an improbable overtime win, sealed by Williams’ 46-yard walkoff touchdown throw, in Week 16.
Green Bay thought it was on the road to revenge when the Packers led 21-3 at halftime of the NFC Wild Card, but it turned out to be déjà vu. The Bears won, 31-27. Williams’ Michael Jordan-esque 4th-and-8 pass from that game was recreated on the ‘Madden 27’ cover.
Williams will have to contend with the “Madden Curse” next season, but in his second year within Ben Johnson’s system, it’s more likely that Williams continues haunting the Packers en route to legitimizing the Bears as a Super Bowl contender.
