Rookie hospitalized after drinking
FLAGSTAFF - First-round pick Bryant Johnson was treated and released at a hospital Sunday morning after apparently participating in too much Flagstaff night life the previous evening.
Johnson, who signed a five-year, $8 million contract Wednesday, was led into an ambulance in the early morning at the players' dormitory on the Northern Arizona campus.
Coach Dave McGinnis watched as the receiver was taken to the hospital.
Johnson was dehydrated and apparently had consumed too much alcohol. He became sick at the dorm and medical help was called.
Johnson denied he had too much to drink. "I was feeling weak and my stomach was bothering me a bit," he said.
Cardinals officials declined comment but confirmed some details of the incident.
The players had Sunday off from practice.
Johnson, from Penn State, was the 17th overall pick in April's draft and is expected to contend for a starting position.
