We need a new coach in order to have any free agents even look at us next year. If we do keep Mac, who will actually think that we have a chance to achieve anything? We need some fresh blood with ties to the NFL. Look at the free agents the Bengals were able to bring in this year. This is a bad reference, but Joyner and Simmons would have never come here if it wasn't for Buddy. We need fresh blood. Brunell will probably end up where ever his Coughlin ends up. I could see Brunell and Collins battling it out in NY.

You can't trade down a first round pick and then turn around and offer a tender to a 1st round slotted RFA.

First, Bulger will stay with the Rams. Despite the controversy he likes it there and plenty of money lies in his future. Why do you think they cannot offer more?

Brunell would be killed here and I am sure he will try for a more competitive team at this stage of his career. Besides, his style and Manning's are quite different. I do not competely agree Manning couldn't start. He is much better prepared than his brother was. He is way ahead David Carr or Leftwich. He couldn't lead the Cards to the playoffs next season, but it is unlikely anyone else could either.

There will be plenty of veteran pocket passers available to mentor Manning if the Cards want to go that route. By the way, I am not sure Manning is a lock unless the Cards have the first pick.

As a personal observation, Jeff Blake has been making huge efforts at mentoring everybody around him. I been watching it for months.

I make no comment on where our current debarcle comes from but Jeff has looked like a real team player. I think you should credit some of Qs development to Jeff.

Maybe we do need a franchise QB but I think we have a veteran mentor.

the point isn't which is or would be a better mentor. The discussion is more about whether or not to go after one old vet in exchange for another. Some seem to think we should and some don't. My goodness, division on the board again. LOL.

Thank you sometimes I feel like the only one on the board who doesn't seem to think Blake is a bad QB and a selfish guy.

Dennis Erickson was on tv last night talking about his QB situation and he said a lot of people misunderstand how much tougher it is for a QB depending on situation. He was talking about Garcia looking horrible against the great Raven defense while Rattay lit up the horrible Steeler secondary and how unfair it is to compare the 2 guys without considering who they played and under what conditions.

He used Blake as an example of another QB taking a lot of blame while being thrown into a new offense and a whole new group of WR's. Said First time we played them they were running the ball because they'd had so many TO problems while throwing it, now it seems they're having the same problem. He basically said we expect them to run the ball over and over again because given their WR situation, they will prefer to run.

I am with you on Blake I haven't seen him do really well however if you remember way back the first two games we moved the ball with impunity but turned it over about that fast too because when he threaded the ball in there the WR took a viscious hit and either popped it up or just fumbled.

We then backed off that but it seems our plan was to attack and then they got gun shy due to turnovers.

I do blame either Sullivan or Blake for throwing to rookie WR over the middle and expecting a veteran catch which usually involves ducking down as fast as gravity will allow.

Our recievers still thought they were in college and almost got killed.

Yep, my comment after the Seattle game when I watched the tape(thanks again Tango) was that we are throwing over the middle as much as any Cardinal team I've ever seen, it's clearly by design, and it's got a lot to do with all the TO's.

But some of the TO's are clearly totally on Jeff, the first one against the Rams 2 weeks ago, the first one Sunday, the fumble are all examples of balls that shouldn't be thrown, or plays where he has to protect the ball and not fumble.

We went to a much more conservative offense for a bit and Jeff stopped turning it over, but the last 2 games have been bad, he hasn't thrown this many picks in a season since 1996. He's had 5 in the last 3 weeks he's got to stop that if this team is going to be in any more games this year.
I believe he can, but I never believed he'd throw this many picks the whole year let alone in 12 games.

I attribute a lot of his problem to having recievers who do not anticipate like they should.

He is a one man show reading blitzes and the other guys are just hanging him out to dry which is all experience.

I think right now he is just lost and worn down which is easily explainable. I have been in situations where I was the only experienced person at my job trying to deal with numerous new people and even though they tried what they did is in the end frustrate you to tears and cause you yourself to start doing stupid things or rushed things to compensate and I think that is exactly what is going on.

Blake is just not the most accurate thrower to begin with. His mid range passes are below average in the NFL his long range passes are above average. His recievers are not getting seperation are not reading hot routes, running the wrong routes, forgetting formations, dropping balls and I think during games he just panics more than he would if he had some reciever other than Boldin to throw too.

Now take into account Mr. suddenly human turnstyle Clement and Blake is just got rabbit feet back there and I think any of us would too.

I think what we are seeing is a total misread on the part of coaching and more so management on how bad it is to field a team with no experienced good NFL recievers. It would be totatlly different if we had one rookie and two good vets but what we have is no vets and all rookies and it is making Blake miserable.

I am agreeing that he is not doing well and I think that since he is more a less a known commodity you can assume most of his problems stem for just sheer panic in the pocket at the lack of support he is getting in completing passes.

The offense is constantly being either dumbed down or ratched up depending on the sitch and he is either bored to death by three and outs or forced to do something.

I think the passes you mentioned when tied or in the hunt fall in to the bored to death I'm tired of not moving the ball turnovers. He is pressing.

I mean on the early drive he hits Gilmore in the hands and plop incompelete pass. He has to think jeez I can't throw every ball to Boldin or Freddie everyone is reading hot routes wrong I chuck it deep and they always either slow up or bobble the thing I cannot work like this what in the heck do I have to do and mentally sooner or later he reverts to panic mode and does dumb things himself.

I understand that every player has his apologists, but it seems as if too much mind reading is going on here. The Cards are the only team who wanted him as their starting QB to begin with. Lately he has been throwing picks at an alarming rate. So what's the point of playing him out to the end. Proves nothing.

Not disagreeing, I'm all for playing others at QB. Part of my reasoning is, I think a lot of the criticism of Blake will subside when people see what happens if McCown and or Parsons are out there in the same situation.

I don't think the Seattle game after Blake got hurt was an enigma, being outscored 31-0 with Blake out of the game.

I'd love for Parsons to be promoted to #2 this week and get some game action, doesn't look like we're going to change starters but if we do I hope Preston gets a start.

I just think at the end of it, it'll be clear why Blake is starting.

Did you notice how Johnson cannot figure out where to go when a deep ball is thrown to him.

I admit, I was an AWFUL center fielder in high school (and still would be today) I didnt have the knack of running down fly balls.

Johnson has the same disease.

If you are talking about me, you are wrong. I'm not an appologist for Blake and I'm not using the phsyic hotline.

I wa saying that bringing in another veteren to mentor a 1st round draft pick would be pointless. We already have one who can do that. This is not mind reading, I've been watching him in practice since the early mini camps.

As for who we should play in the remaining games, I made no comment on that.

I asked a couple of weeks ago have they checked his vision? he seems to have trouble tracking balls in flight and it seems to be the higher the pass the more trouble he has. I said at the time same thing you did how some outfielders have trouble doing that.

I would hope we check things like that wouldn't be the first NFL WR to have a vision problem.

I dont think it matters who your QB is next year. If the offensive line underperforms again and the defense isnt drastically improved there is no reason to belive this team is better then 5-11 next year too. You have to draft Manning and let him sit the year while blake plays out the rest of his contract. Hopefully the young recievers can mature and by the 2005 season Manning will have a good core of recievers to throw to. We just better hope we can land some top tear defensive free agents. We also need an offensive minded coach to come in here. I can't remember a time when the team had an offensive minded coach and a young franchise QB. Thats whats at the core of a good football team. NO MORE DEFENSIVE COACHES. WE HAVE BEEN TO THE PLAYOFFS ONCE SINCE 1988 WHEN WE MOVED HERE AND ALL WE HAVE HAD IS DEFENSIVE COACHES, BUGEL, BUDDY BALL, TOBIN, MAC.

Actually Bugel was an offensive coach. I also couldn't disagree more about an offensive coach. Defense wins in the NFL.

Tell that to the Rams. There has to be some type of balance. It's almost a mute argument because we've had old Defensive Coordinators as coaches and our D still sucked. We have been a bad football team because we aren't good on either side of the ball. I really don't care which side of the ball gets better first. Just get better. Truthfully though Mao, I would love to start out with a dominant D.

As you know I was very high on getting Blake and have ben disappointed with what has transpired so far but I still maintain he is a better QB than what he has shown...maybe not night and day different...but still better.

Conrad, on another thread summed up alot about Blake that is dead on IMO. He has played it safe but as the O doesn't get going and game continues to progress he becomes more frustrated/impatient/nervous and wants to make plays and then bad things happen.

I also think the lack of any experience in the WR corp has hurt since there hasn't been a confidence built up yet with anyone but Boldin. Blake, with a veteran WR, would have another player he is comfortable throwing to because that player has done it in the NFL.

A brand spanking new OC doesn't help either...learning on the job, and being in over his head while learning it. I think the O as a whole isn't 100% confident in the game plans Sullivan sets before them and Blake then has to make plays in order to get the O going and confident. BTW, next year there will be yet another new OC and a new offensive scheme/terminology to learn.

I would take the Rams Offensive Line over any other teams in the league. That's the difference between the Cardinals and any other team is that they lack the necessary continuity/chemistry that an OL requires. Unfortunately, it will take them about 2-3 more years for them to "gel".
