I'd argue that penciling in a player as a starter that was 1-10 for you and then putting yourself in this position to where a player like that can ask for a raise hurts the team.

The alternative is playing Beck/Minshew. Or having all of them compete for the job.
How? Literally everyone believes that Beck and Minshew are worse.

Brissett Sucks and no stats can prove otherwise
He’s almost certainly the worst starter in the NFL. But no one took me up on the argument that we should have brought in Trey Lance/Zach Wilson/Will Levis.

I get that everyone wants a long-term answer at QB, but sometimes those aren’t available. Lots of folks here stamping their feet and balling their fists because we didn’t…???

Let’s cut Kyler Murray and then give Jacoby Brissett a $10-15 million raise

Smart of him to wait for leverage:

Yep I think the Cards knew JB was the best QB on the roster but I also think they were hoping to get him on a lowball deal because Bidwill is the last name, and then reality of watching Minshew and especially Beck showed them they would be smart to just sign JB and move forward.

It's barely possible to be worse than 1-10 as a starter.
It’s fairly smooth-brained to look at what happened at the end of last season and believe that Jacoby Brissett was the person primarily holding the Cards back from going 10-1 in that stretch.

There are a variety of ways to go 1-10 (or 5-12); I’m much more excited to see the version helmed by Kacoby Brissett than the one lead by Carson Beck.

Yup. Only real alternative was Willis and he was a pig in a poke.

personally, I think Kyler cut himself when he refused to play behind Brissett.
Bidwill is too cheap, Murray would be here this year. If we had another down year, then Murray is gone and we draft a QB next year.

He asked what I would rather do with the money. I answered him. Simple as that.

In this case I think it’s about modestly rewarding a professional for doing things the right way DCR.

Yes, our ham-fisted GM butchered the negotiation from the outset, but I think ultimately it’s the right move.

We’re talking about a tiny fraction of the salary cap. This not about money, but is instead about principles and process.

52+ other professionals on the roster observing how we treated a guy who gave it 1000% on every front last year.
