There’s finally been some news on the Jacoby Brissett front and his contract dispute with the Arizona Cardinals.

Nothing appears to have been resolved financially, but according to Brissett's Instagram story, he invited a handful of Cardinals teammates to South Florida this week for private workouts in preparation for training camp.

The Cardinals are scheduled to report to State Farm Stadium on Wednesday, July 22, and Brissett posted a photo on social media featuring himself, wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Semi Fehoko, tight ends Trey McBride and Elijah Higgins along with quarterback Kedon Slovis after one of the private workouts.

Considering Brissett skipped the Cardinals’ entire voluntary offseason program and reported to mandatory minicamp but did not participate in any drills, this appears to be the first time Brissett has had any football activity with any of his teammates since the end of last season, when Arizona finished 3-14.

Could it be the start of a potential uptick in negotiations with the Cardinals? It’s impossible to know, given Brissett hasn’t made any public statements about his situation. It does, however, show some good faith on his part, and that’s something that might sway either general manager Monto Ossenfort or owner Michael Bidwill — and possibly both — to resume contract talks and find a solution.

It’s a big “if,” though.

It’s doubtful Brissett is going to cave on his demands after essentially being a “hold-in” for this long. He is scheduled to earn $4.88 million in 2026, with a max value of $5.39 million, but only $1.5 million is guaranteed.

That’s a pittance for a presumed starting quarterback, which is what Brissett was last season after replacing the injured — and then benched — Kyler Murray, who was released and then signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Cardinals’ other veteran quarterback, Gardner Minshew II, is assured of more guaranteed pay than Brissett this coming season.

It isn’t known just how much more salary or guaranteed pay Brissett is seeking, but he and the Cardinals are quickly running out of time to find a suitable deal for both sides. If nothing gets hammered out by the time the Cardinals report to training camp, it’s doubtful they'll suddenly run to the negotiating table, especially if Brissett refuses to report or participate.

The only thing we can tell with any certainty is that Brissett is working out, he’s doing it with some of his teammates, and that’s at least a start.
