Yeah but that is not comforting for me either.

I was really hoping Beck would show that he is the guy from day 1.

We are already hearing Beck has accuracy issues.
I don't get the accuracy issues either. I played more baseball than football, but I was a 2nd string QB freshman year just because I could throw. It's pretty much ingrained in your head when you throw the ball where it's going. The only thing that makes any sense is timing with the recievers.

Except when players are telling the organization to get it done.

The Cards are a joke. Unwarranted. I don’t care what y’all say. I don’t care if some say it’s “peanuts”. His 1 win and garbage time stats does not warrant this pay.

It is peanuts...and beer, hotdogs, nachos....all concession sales and loss of ticket sales would be a lot more than the extra 14 million to JB. It's a business ;)

For the 3 win only haters: "Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett finished last year tied for 14th in touchdowns (23), seventh in yards per game (240.4) and 14th in total yards (3,366)."

I bashed JB as much as anyone last year, but if you are the starting QB in the NFL, you are putting your long term health as risk. They have a much higher risk for getting ALS and if you start at QB, you are going to get hit a lot more. Any QB in the NFL who is a starter deserve the money they get.

Let's set aside the argument that Brissett deserved or didn't deserve the new contract. It's perception around the league the Cardinals are cheap. That leads to good GM candidates not wanting to interview with the Cards, the better coaches not wanting to come here, top free agents wanting to pass by, etc. Even an article lately that Manning wouldn't play for the Cards if drafted next year. Maybe the perception in unfair. Lately they have only lowballed arguably their best player on the whole team in contract negotiations in McBride, had what looks like an unnecessary lengthy public negotiation with their starting QB, etc. They have a long way to go before they can get rid of this perception that is affecting them and their ability to get top talent in the front office, coaching, and players.

Why would anyone complain about this deal? It's for 1 year and has zero effect on the cap moving forward. He, by far, gives the Cards their best chance to win. That's all you can ask for. I don't get how anyone would want Beck under center to start the season over Brissett.

You can make all the predictions you want but they're meaningless until they start playing games. Like I mentioned earlier, how many wins were the Seahawks with Sam Darnold and Pats predicted to win last year? The Cards trade with Houston looked good at the time because everyone had the Texans winning 2-3 games then were watching them in the playoffs and the Cards top 3 pick was now late 20's. What if Jacoby puts up better numbers to last year with more weapons and the Cards defense is competent?

I'm not saying that will be the case but it's 100% the right move.

He's the lowest paid starting QB in the league for 1 year. What's the bitch about??????
Says who? Reality says otherwise. 1-11.

There’s definitely a world where he isn’t even playing by October yet they folded to his demands.

I’ll never be impressed by the garbage time stats he put up.

Of course I’ll root for the Cards to win and if he starts I hope he does well for our sake.

It's usually because he jumped up a big level in competition so he's afraid to trust his eyes and let the ball go so he's holding it too long and as you said the timing is off.

One of the knocks on him in college is he held the ball too long

I think that's not really a "rather" answer if both can clearly happen. My point is "what is giving Brissett a mild raise doing to hurt the team? What is the alternative?"
I'd argue that penciling in a player as a starter that was 1-10 for you and then putting yourself in this position to where a player like that can ask for a raise hurts the team.

The alternative is playing Beck/Minshew. Or having all of them compete for the job.

100%. I’m not say he isn’t better than Minshew and Beck but Brissett is a career backup for a reason. Just because he happens to be on a poorly run team with no real QB, doesn’t mean he deserves starter pay.

The Cardinals were 1-11 under Brissett.
It wasn't on him alone.

Everyone was pretty much in agreement that the offense looked much better under him last season.

When your defense is giving up over 30 a game it's hard to win.

This was 100% the right move. But Brissett is going to really struggle to put up better counting stats than he did last season. Equivalent counting stats with greater efficiency and more contributions from the running game would make this a top 12-ish offense.

I think this defense will struggle to be in the top 20. Maybe they get more turnover luck.

But he is their starter. Hes being paid as the lowest starter in the league. Not an issue.

I'd argue that his 1 year 15mill deal is much better than the deal they gave Murray

It’s not your money. It will have no long term impact on our future. Why you mad, exactly?

These counting stats are fairly distorted by the fact that we couldn’t run the ball at all.

If you think Jacoby is going to play among the top 15-20 QBs in the league, you’re likely to be very disappointed.

we paid our best quarterback starter money to start - making mcbride and our receiving core happy in the process

if we lose and brissett is the reason why we can throw beck in there - who will probably do worse than brissett (leaving our draft possibilities intact)
