I don't thin those still pictures are conclusive of anything, Shane--we need to see the replay to draw any decisive conclusions, and even then, we've all come to different outcomes.

I think that if even cardinals fans on the message board disagree, then it's pretty clear there would have been inconclusive evidence to overturn the call on the field.

The pics are fuzzy which is to be expected. However the Ref would have advantage of full HD replays from multiple angles. No doubt in my that it would have been overturned. Its pretty conclusive on the slow mo replay IMO.

Im sure at a bar and live you just arent getting the same looks.

Im not knocking Whiz and understand that he doesnt have a lot of time to make that decision. But the guys in the booth above should have been all over it.

I actually feel like I had a pretty definitive look and thought he was 6 inches short.

Just out of curiosity where do you come from that conclusion? My pic in post #21 certainly doesnt show that and that is the only side view they showed during the broadcast replays.

I don't have it recorded so I can't tell you. But I watched it in slow-mo about a half dozen times and came to that conclusion.

Feels like we're analyzing the Zapruder film here. I think I see a second gunman through the window in the reflection...

Either way, JFK is dead and the Cards won the game.

The shin is not down in those pics. When in the life of all the football that you have watched have you heard or seen someone called down by a shin? If a shin is down Since there are no jointed shins that I'm aware so then would be the knee. :D

I know you cant see his body in the last hes covered by players. But you can see his body position at full stretch in the others.

I thought he scored too......I guess he thought we were gonna run it in.

The head referee in this game was Walt Coleman. He is from Little Rock where I live. He and his family own milk company that has been in the family for over 100 years. I have visited with him many times on business and did not know he was a NFL ref for many years until one day I paid attention to him on TV making call with his southern drawl. I have no idea how these guys live during the season. Do they go home after a game and then fly into the city where the next game is played a day or so ahead of time. I would assume the refs and judges all have meetings prior to games. They are judged after each game on their performance so the TV guys say. NFL Refs make from $25,000 to $70,000 for a sixteen game season. I have attached a web site that gives you the complete skinny on what refs in the NFL, NBA, NHL make and how they are selected. Walt Coleman needs no money with his big milk business. He must be a friend or acquaintance of Jerry Jones who lived in Little Rock for many year as they would move in the same circles. I often wondered if he would be allowed to referee a game where he knew the owner of the team playing?

I have seen the shin called. In the playoffs last year or a primetime game, I don't remember, but the shin down is down.

Vegas, baby, yeah!
From what I've read throughout the years:

Do they go home after a game and then fly into the city where the next game is played a day or so ahead of time.

Yes - they do. Their schedule is that they return home. Tuesday they usually get a hot sheet from the chief official / head of referees. Wednesday they get game tapes and further refined analysis on controversial calls, interpretation of rules, etc. They also receive their assessment on Wednesday / Thursday from the league.

:biglaugh:

Pretty much how I feel at this point. As the play happened I said (to myself) that has to be challenged, Q did score. I do understand why Whis didn't challenge, very very very close call.

Portland Oregon these days.
I think Whiz was right in not challenging. Partly because it seemed very uncertain that it would be reversed, but mostly because that was the second challenge early in the game. The refs were frankly bad (witness the 'he established himself' call the play before), and it would not have been nice to go thru the rest of that game without any challenges.
