Awa Fam may or may not become a Dallas Wing, but she is going to be part of Project B

In under two weeks, we’ll find out if Awa Fam will be part of Project D.

The 19-year-old 6-foot-6 prospect who plays for Valenica Basket and the Spanish national team is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft by our Eric Nemchock, setting up the possibility of a future partnership with Paige Bueckers on the Dallas Wings.

We do now know, however, that Fam will be part of Project B, as Fam announced she will compete in the forthcoming international league alongside the likes of Nneka Ogwumike, Alyssa Thomas,Jonquel Jones, Jewell Loyd and Kelsey Mitchell.

Fam explained her intentions in an email to the AP, writing:

Any time you get the chance to be part of something new and competitive, it’s special. Project B feels like a place where the game is continuing to grow, and I’m grateful to be part of that from the beginning.

What stood out to me was the vision. It’s about high-level basketball, but also about investing in players and pushing the women’s game forward. That combination made it an easy decision for me.

While slated to begin in November 2026, Project B has announced two of the locations in which the league will host competitions during its inaugural season, one of which Fam happens to be quite familiar with. Project B will hold games in Valencia beginning March 12, 2027. The league also has scheduled a stop in Tokyo in the spring of 2027, beginning March 26 and extending to April 4.

Fam also expressed readiness for year-round basketball, as she will quickly jump from her first WNBA season to Project B, with a stint with Spain at the FIBA Women’s World Cup in between. She asserted to the AP:

It’s all about preparation and taking care of my body. I’ve been playing year-round for a while now, so I understand what it takes physically and mentally. I’ll lean on my team, stay disciplined with recovery, and make sure I’m ready wherever I’m playing.
