Auburn basketball will have four Tigers sidelined for the first of their two exhibitions this weekend in Greece, but two of players those won't see the court at all.
International additions Mantas Rubstavicius and Narcisse Ngoy will sit out both contests, according to a release from the program, as they await "eligibility clearance from the NCAA." Both Ngoy and Rubstavicius had already made it to Auburn's campus. They've been practicing with the program, and both traveled with the team this week.
Neither guard George Kimble III (hand) nor forward Owen Freeman (foot) will participate in Game One against Serbian squad KK Mega Superbet on Saturday, Aug. 8. Their status for Sunday's contest is unknown.
While Auburn didn't add further context to the status of Ngoy or Rubstavicius for the upcoming season, the program isn't the first to see newcomers sidelined for recent offseason contests. Both Arkansas and Texas A&M have sat their own additions, be it from international or other professional waters, in what appears to be a similar circumstance.
Ngoy's signing signing was announced in March, before he reaffirmed his commitment to Auburn after a surprise NBA draft selection this year. The 7-footer averaged 10.8 points per game in the French Elite 2 League last year, and he led the league in rebounds per game (11.5) and blocks per game (2.5) while shooting 70% from the floor.
Rubstavicius' signing was announced in June, and the 6-foot-6 Lithuanian wing played several years in Europe. He also went through the NBA draft process in 2024, but after going undrafted, he returned to Lietkabelis Panevėžys, a Lithuanian professional club.
It was his third stint with the team, and he averaged 12.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in the EuroCup. In 16 games, he had four performances with at least 15 points, including a pair of 20-point outputs.
