Kenny played the system well, and Michigan waited too long to offer the job because it was so focused on DeBoer.
He worked it. As he should've. Michigan had already interviewed some people but there was never news he actually interviewed with their AD. At best he was a backup plan. But, hey, that was enough.

This is not a popular opinion now....

But I am not all that high on Dillingham. We will see, this year will really be significant.

Apparently the previous payroll for staff was 1.7 million so jumping it to 11 is pretty significant. Hopefully that allows them to invest on some high level recruiters as well.

What does this mean for NIL $? Is the $11M for staff and NIL, or?

michigan threw kenny a desperate offer but kenny was smart - used that offer to flex on asu - got what he wanted and needed - program will only benefit from it and recruit better because of it - kenny smart

Michigan never offered the job to Kenny

Yes the coaching pool was the catalyst.

Btw, if I turn out wrong on this I’m stoked. And happy to admit it. But I’ll always have some skepticism lurking every time a blue blood program vacancy comes available.

Curious what your hesitations are…

Okay that’s pretty impressive if true

I think that skepticism is well founded regardless of his contract. Just the way of the college football world now. This may be his dream job and home but eventually another program will come knocking and he might even be more tempted than he was for Michigan

There’s personal stuff that always going to likely prevent him from leaving right now. And like I said he’s got his eye on the Cardinals job whenever that opens up. Flirting with Michigan only makes that jump more realistic in NFL circles.

Kenny got what he wanted but he also knows that even with this jump they’re like ~30th in the country in available resources (NIL, coaching salaries, budget, etc). Really hard to have sustainable success at programs like ASU without there being some sort of systemic reform.

Yeah, this won’t be the last time the coaching carousel touches Dillingham one way or another, assuming he continues to succeed and grow. It’s the world we live in - a world where ADs don’t even blink at paying massive buyouts to hire who they want.

CKG wanted a competent staff and be a desirable location for desirable staff. And he wants a GM and with this allotment, he can fulfill this. If he didn't get this, he was gone. Crow made promises and it was time for him to put his money where his mouth was.
