At this point it’s either that or play the band-aid Keim philosophy.
This team is trash. We won 4 games last year with the players we had. How much worse can it get?
We are going to have to turn this roster over to get better. We are going to have to like it or lump it.
Except we’re not really turning this roster over. We’re re-signing a BUNCH of low-level cheap players from last year and NOT turning over guys like Conner/Ertz while ALSO pushing cap hits like Watt and Hudson into next season.

It’s half-measures that accomplish nothing in the present AND moves that will handcuff the cap in the future.

Connor and Ertz may still very well be jettisoned before this is over. The NFL season started about two weeks ago. We won 4 games last year and we have no clue when Murray will play this year if at all.
We have to keep SOME players to field a team. If it doesn’t significantly help or hurt us cap wise this year or next then what difference does it make?
Last year the Bears traded Mack and got picks in return. Hopkins could be our guy this year. They traded Roquan Smith before the deadline and got picks. That could be Connor and/or Ertz for us.
NOTHING the cardinals could do this off season would have made us a playoff team. So should we really care if we have 3 wins or 6 wins this season? If we are going to suck, let’s make sure we suck good.

Please show me anywhere where anyone definitively states Kyler is going to miss a "bunch" of games.

Pure speculation.

The assumption is they'll be cautious with his return, but to your point, it's an assumption.

I could see them holding him out all season with how they are building this roster though, but who knows.

He does look way ahead of schedule based on 4 or 5 Instagram posts he and the Cardinals have put out. So maybe they are hoping for an early return too.

Ertz with his current deal would be either an in season at the deadline trade if he's healthy or next off season trade.

Connor only haves us $500k to move him and no one is trading for him at $6.5 million in base salary. He'll get cut next off season for only a $2 million hit.

He played LG for the Panthers in 2021 and had 9 penalties in 9 starts while giving up 3 sacks and grading terribly on PFF.

He also went viral at the end of last season for offering a random woman money for sex on Instagram. Then he continued to make a fool of himself after she called him out for it. He came out of it looking like an idiot, to put it kindly.
He started to question himself based on his failure at tackle. Be patient and hope.

Conner and Ertz are nowhere NEAR the caliber of players like Mack or Roquan Smith.

And you can’t say if we’re going to suck, let’s make sure we suck good then make excuses for why we’re going to keep Conner and Ertz when we could eat their cap hits NOW and not have them hurt us next year. Same for the mind boggling decisions to push Hudson and Watt’s cap hits into next year. Those moves all DO HURT next year.

But he was good in college. LOL….
Players don’t become less agile. They don’t lose speed if they are in shape. The same is true of strength. I’m guessing he comes in ready to play and was grilled before he was signed. I‘m just saying there‘s a chance. I actually expected more of this type of signing.

Diamond in the rough types? Considering our current strategy, we should be absolutely grabbing every lottery pick type player and hoping another incompetent FO made a mistake.

That is 100% not true. If you bulk too fast, as many college to pro kids tend to do, and don't hyper focus on mobility, you'll absolutely become less agile.

Agree that we should putting all the $ we can on this years cap and not push it to next year

It's mind boggling with a supposed re-build going on

Can't cut Ertz, it would have to be an injury settlement and that can have a bad look to cut a playing in the middle of rehab. Also, if we could cut Ertz, it would cost $16 million in dead money vs. the $11 million cap hit. Trading him the next off season would cost $5 million in dead money, but get us something back.

Connor only saves $500k, so no point in cutting him. We'll suck with or without him, so might as well keep him and mentor the kids we hopefully bring in.

A couple points.

1 - Signing good, young players at key positions is a good free agent practice. That is why good teams add quality players in free agency but don't try to build a roster through free agency.

2 - If your plan is to "turn over the roster", re-signing your worst players is not doing that.

My differing opinion is his lack of core strength and balance wasn't an issue in college, but is a huge issue in the pros. Don't see any reason that is changing.

Who are the "worst" players the Cardinals have resigned? It's not like they brought back Sean Harlow or Max Garcia.

If you say Antonio Hamilton, Ill just laugh at the post and say you're being ridiculous. Hamilton is a solid NFL CB. He can play in a pinch. He is not Patrick Peterson or Aeneas Williams, but he's also not Kevin Peterson or Tito Paul.

Hard Knocks made it very clear that he understands where he stands in the NFL pecking order, and it sure as hell aint as a solid NFL CB. We don't have a solid NFL CB on the roster anymore. Wilson might get there, but isn't there yet.

Zeke Turner. Jon Ledbetter.

We agree that Hamilton "can play in a pinch." But he's probably going to start.

I am trying to confirm this but OTC shows the Cardinals converted Conner's roster bonus this year to a signing bonus pushing 1 mil to 2024's books to create an extra mil for this year.

If this is true, maximum incompetence.

A real good special teamer and a fringe roster guy? It's not like we're bitching about bringing back a real bad starter here.

If he is on the opening day depth chart it will be a minor issue. He certainly hasn't embarrassed himself.

Antonio Hamilton is 30 years old, and has only played one season with over 30% of defensive snaps. He is the Zeke Turner CBs except he might start with our CB depth.

Except when he gave up on a tackle in a primetime game.

There are three phases to the game and Turner has been a key Special teams contributor.

Ledbetter is a cheap ERFA signing, who received a few words of praise from the H-C in one interview.
