The Arizona Cardinals have made the necessary roster moves to get the roster to 53 players. It took some cuts and some moves with injuries, while five injured players bypassed the roster completely who will return.
There were some surprises, but it went mostly as expected.
Here are the Cardinals' roster moves to get the active roster set.
The Cardinals cut the following players on Tuesday before the 1 p.m. Arizona time deadline.
They also announced Monday their first cuts.
In what was perhaps a surprise move, the Cardinals activated Hernandez from PUP and begins the season on the active roster. And by not keeping another guard other than backup center Jon Gaines, it would appear that he is ready to practice and perhaps play.
The Cardinals placed three players on injured reserve. One is linebacker J.J. Russell, who suffered a concussion early in training camp. He is out for the season because he was not designated to return.
Tackle Christian Jones and rookie guard Hayden Conner were both placed on injured reserve witg knee injuries they sustained in the preseason. Both are eligible to return to practice no earlier than Week 5.
Hernandez was activated from the offseason PUP list. The other three players who were on the offseason PUP list — defensive lineman Bilal Nichols (neck), rookie defensive lineman Walter Nolen (calf) and outside linebacker BJ Ojulari (knee) — were moved to the regular-season PUP reserve. They bypassed the 53-man roster but are eligible to be activated. They must miss at least four games before they can begin to practice.
