Palmer is the starter when healthy.
So Stanton is the starter.
Palmer is the starter when healthy.
Two words Scott Mitchell. It's only two games. The NFL weeds out those who can play from those who can't. Heart is awesome but it's not even most important. I wouldn't say Montana had heart really at all. I would say in his prime there is no QB I would rather put money on.
anyone else consider we are perhaps witnessing the countdown to Logan Thomas?....
seems all the rage these days to have your young mobile QB come in mid season and lead your team to the playoffs............
Drew Stanton must remain Cardinals' QB over Carson Palmer

PS - Don't shoot the messenger.
turning in the first interception-free/sack-free complete game by a Cardinals quarterback in four years.
hottake or not, this is fairly impressive

All I know is, I'm a lot happier with the Stanton/Palmer QB controversy than the DA/Max Hall/Skelton debate...![]()
I have been saying this for the last 24 hours.
I have seen what I needed to from Drew Stanton at this point. HAs anyone seen him throw into coverage in two games. Palmer does that 3-4 times A GAME. I really like Palmer but we dont need to sling the ball 50 times to win. We have a complete team.
Which is why the guy who doesnt turn over the ball, can pick up the first down with his feet when needed, AND do about a 80% impression of the big play down field throws Palmer makes that WOW you.
This seems silly right now. But I actually think this will become a #hottertake as time goes on.
Think you guys are underselling Stanton. And I actually like Palmer more than most. But we lose that game yesterday with him as I see AT LEAST 1 Niners INT that completly changes the game. I dont think BA will make the change but Im shocked its less talked about and seen as inevitable that Palmer takes back over.
Credit to BA on that. In Arians I trust but I think Stanton is better than people are giving him credit for.
Joe Cool, huh? Yeah, right! Two words Scott Mitchell. It's only two games. The NFL weeds out those who can play from those who can't. Heart is awesome but it's not even most important. You don't win time and time again in the biggest games, the highest pressure situations, without heart. Montana played with plenty of heart. HUGE heart!
Quarterback one-hit wonders:
- Scott Mitchell
- Derek Anderson
- Mark Rypien
- Rob Johnson
- Jay Fiedler
- Kevin Kolb
The list goes on.
Let's not get too excited about one decent performance. Palmer is the more accomplished, proven QB and Stanton is still a a relative unknown. In addition to which, if you bench Palmer, it's for good. Palmer quit on both the Bengals and Raiders, so his loyalty to teams only goes so far. Even if Stanton struggles, Palmer would jump ship at the end of the season and we'd be stuck with Logan Thomas.
IMO his completion % was bad because he didn't force it.Stanton was not very good.
The good thing he did was not throwing interceptions but other than that his completion % is bad. The interceptions will likely come soon.
What? Stanton threw the ball up for grabs a couple of times yesterday.
Youll have to show me as I didnt see it. With Palmer there are 3 throws a a game that should be or are picked. I never felt that way with Stanton. I think its fair to say he understands the offense better than Palmer and thats expected with a full year longer in the system.
I dont think its time to make sweeping proclamations just yet but A) I liked what I saw and B) we may not have a choice in the matter till we better understand what the issue is.
My point is I dont think Schiens take is off base and more importantly im astounded there is less talk about the possibility. Credit goes to Arians. With Wisenhunt Stanton would havebeen named the starter only to have 2 bad series and Logan comes in![]()
