The status of Iowa football legend and 49ers superstar tight end George Kittle has been in question all week. Fans have finally gotten their answer as to the former Hawkeye's game status against the Chicago Bears.
Kittle has officially been ruled as inactive, per the team's pregame inactives list.
After suffering a low-to-mid ankle sprain during San Francisco's 48-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts last Monday night, Kittle's health had been one of the prevailing storylines surrounding the 49ers' Sunday Night Football date against the Chicago Bears.
Despite not practicing all week and earning a "questionable" designation on the 49ers' Friday injury report, Kittle still intended on at least testing out his ankle before San Francisco's Sunday night game against the Bears, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. ESPN's Adam Schefter had reported Kittle's availability as "highly unlikely" on Sunday morning.
The absence of Kittle will leave a massive hole in San Francisco's offensive capabilities, with the 49ers averaging 34.4 points per game during their current five-game winning streak and Kittle recording 31 receptions for 415 yards and four touchdowns in that span.
Kickoff between the 49ers and Bears is set for 7:20 p.m. CT from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sunday night, with the game broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
