49ers free agent named among best unsigned players under 30

If the San Francisco 49ers want to make some quality additions in free agency ahead of the 2026 season, they may only need to look at some of the players they let walk this offseason.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox compiled a list of the top 10 unsigned free agents under the age of 30 and ranked ex-49ers edge rusher Clelin Ferrell No. 5. The former No. 4 overall pick in 2019 hasn't lived up to his draft billing, but had a solid four sacks in eight games for San Francisco this past season.

Having just turned 29 in May, Ferrell is worth considering on a multi-year deal. A return to San Francisco would make a ton of sense, given his recent performances there. However, he'd be a sensible target for any team looking for help on the edge.

The 49ers don't have much edge depth heading into 2026. Nick Bosa, Mykell Williams and Keion White are all recovering from injuries. That leaves Sam Okuayinonu, free-agent pickup Cameron Sample and 2026 third-round pick Romello Height as the only healthy players at the position at this point in the offeason.

If the 49ers liked what they saw from Ferrell and the price is right, it would make a lot of sense to being him back.
