Stefon Diggs is still available, and at least one analyst thinks the San Francisco 49ers make sense as a landing spot for the veteran pass-catcher.
CBS Sports' Jordan Dajani included the 49ers among the top landing spots for the veteran wide receiver, who remains unsigned after posting 85 catches, 1,013 yards and four touchdowns last season. Diggs, 32, also won't face an NFL suspension following an off-field assault allegation, clearing another hurdle ahead of a potential signing.
San Francisco did add Mike Evans and Christian Kirk in free agency and drafted De'Zhaun Stribling, but Dajani believes the team would be smart to keep adding at the position given the injury history of its current receiver depth chart.
It's a fair point. The 49ers know better than most what an injury-riddled receiver room looks like, and the depth behind Evans, Kirk and Pearsall isn't exactly settled even with Stribling in tow.
Diggs isn't the player he was in his Minnesota Vikings prime, but he's a savvy route runner who has consistently produced in multiple offenses. That kind of veteran presence fits exactly what Shanahan looks for in a receiver.
Whether San Francisco actually circles back to Diggs is unclear. The front office has been relatively quiet since the Evans signing, and the roster isn't without other priorities. But if the price is right and Diggs is willing to take a role player deal, this one could make some sense for both sides.

San Francisco had the most games missed due to injury by any playoff team last year, and Ricky Pearsall was a part of that. The former first-round pick played in just nine games this past season, and there's no more Jauan Jennings to step up in his place. We also know Evans is about to turn 33-years-old and has dealt with some hamstring issues in the past. Kyle Shanahan should be open to adding another versatile veteran to help Brock Purdy's passing attack.
